Cornell College, a private undergraduate liberal arts college located in Mount Vernon, Iowa, is seeking a part-time Lecturer in Spanish beginning September 2024. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching up to (5) sections of Spanish 101, 102, and 103 during the 2024-2025 academic year. Applicants may be considered for multiple courses, or all five courses. These courses are the first, second, and third courses in a three-course sequence of Spanish language learning, which provides students with an introduction to speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension in Spanish. Master's or PhD required. Spanish or related degree preferred; native speaker or near-native speaker with a degree in a field such as literature or education considered

Cornell utilizes a block schedule for its courses, so instructors teach and students take a single course full time during each of eight, four-week sessions. The blocks would likely include block 2 (September 23-October 16) and block 4 (November 18-December 18) in the fall, and block 6 (February 10-March 5), block 7 (March 17-April 9), and block 8 (April 14-May 7) in the spring.

The college encourages interdisciplinary interests among its faculty and the development of teaching strategies that capitalize on our unique academic calendar, which allows us the freedom to structure course time within each block according to the needs of the class without impinging on other course commitments. In addition, classes are limited to 25 students, with upper-level classes often smaller, and are supported by professional and Spanish-proficient peer consultants in the Writing Studio.
