Ardelle Associates, a veteran-owned company providing Consulting and Support Services to government agencies is seeking a Legal Assistant to join their team in support of the DOJ, U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) in Nashville, TN.

Full time hours (40/wk) for a one (1) year contract. An inviting opportunity to gain experience with the DOJ for persons pursuing a career in the legal and/or federal government.

Overview:

The Legal Assistant I will play a crucial role in the office by providing comprehensive legal support, including preparing complex legal documents, conducting legal research, managing evidence and discovery, assisting in case management, and offering administrative support. Their contributions will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the office's operations, ensuring smooth workflow and support for the attorneys in various legal tasks and responsibilities.

Duties:

  • Examine, prepare, and process technical legal correspondence and documents.
  • Prepare various legal documents like pleadings, motions, briefs, and affidavits.
  • Proofread and cite-check legal briefs and documents.
  • Assemble tables of authorities and contents for legal briefs.
  • Organize, process, and copy documents as required.
  • Prepare evidence summaries for potential federal law violations.
  • Summarize witness interviews and meetings with counsel.
  • Assist in processing and organizing legal data and materials.
  • Review incoming material and prepare a variety of legal documents.
  • Compose original letters related to legal procedures and terminology.
  • Prepare legal actions such as indictments, search warrants, and summonses.
  • Conduct legal research in legal and non-legal databases.
  • Assist in preparing evidence for trial and manage discovery materials.
  • Prepare trial exhibits like charts, graphs, and timelines.
  • Manage paper and electronic evidence and documents.
  • Contribute to reports summarizing case status and legal issues.
  • Code and index discovery documents using legal case management software.
  • Provide administrative support by receiving visitors and calls.
  • Maintain calendars, track filing dates, and schedule conferences.
  • Arrange travel, prepare itineraries, and manage administrative tasks.

Qualifications:

- High School Diploma+.

- 2+ years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in a law office.

- Strong organizational and time management skills.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Experience with tribal law regulations and securities law is preferred.

- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

- A strong commitment to confidentiality and discretion.
