Description

This position supports the public services functions of the University Libraries through the effective management of student and staff employees, participation in the reference desk rotation, and customer service, network and user support assistance.

  • Hire, train, supervise, and schedule student workers to provide user assistance and customer service.
  • Participate in the reference desk rotation, providing reference assistance to library users.
  • Participate in service desk rotation (circulation and reserves) and resolve public service issues.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate Library Specialist(s) and/or staff.
  • Work with Library Systems (computing and networking) staff to identify and resolve problems in public computing services; may also work with integrated library system (ILS) staff to resolve ILS issues.
  • Participate as a member of the Libraries' Public Workstations Committee to establish and review policies on public computing services.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

The Music Library Manager oversees access services and operational functions of the Music Library, including providing superior customer service (virtual and face-to-face), special projects, and collections maintenance.

The hours for this position are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Additional Job Duties

  • Hires, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates a full-time Senior Library Specialist, a half-time Library Assistant (currently vacant), and student library assistants.
  • Maintains the Music Library’s customizations in the Alma integrated library system.
  • Serves as a liaison on access functions to the UH Libraries embedded libraries, UH Clear Lake, and UH Downtown branches, as well as MD Anderson Library.
  • Compiles daily and monthly statistics of all access-related activities in the Music Library.
  • Develops, documents, and executes processes and procedures for the Music Library.
  • Collaborates with the Music Library team on advancing strategic initiatives.
  • Uses social media to promote Music Library resources, services, and events, and to highlight faculty research, student achievements, and academic initiatives.
  • Coordinates faculty course and personal reserves.
  • Provides specialized reference support for faculty and students.
  • Facilitates in-house repair of books and music scores.
  • Initiates supply order requests, work orders, and technology requests.
  • Provides basic facilities maintenance.
  • Serves on cross-departmental committees.

Qualifications

Associates and 3 years experience

Requires the ability and knowledge for analysis and interpretation of procedures, policies and practices attainable through specific education and/or training programs in a specialty or technical field. Advanced vocational or electronic skills or a basic knowledge of a professional field is required. An Associate's degree or certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months and up to 3 years duration are characteristic of this field. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
