Leads the litigation function delivering optimal outcomes for customers and the company. Manages a team of litigation adjusters including productivity, file quality, and the delivery of customer service for multistate property/casualty claims. Develops and manages relationships with external law firms to deliver optimal results. Ensures compliance with regulatory and company standards and provides technical guidance as required.



Your Role Explained.

Roles and responsibilities of the Litigation Manager position include:


  • Claims File Review/Handling: Manages investigations of litigated claims including liability, coverage, bodily injury and property losses. Advises litigation adjusters on involved cases and approves settlements beyond their authority after reviewing case file. Provides recommendations to senior management on cases exceeding personal authority. Reviews files to ensure regulatory and internal policy compliance. Performs call quality audits regularly.
  • Litigation: Oversees and participates in trials, mediations, and arbitrations, which may require occasional travel. Consults with attorneys on defense of claims, discovery and regulations related to timing of claim payments.
  • Cost Control: Controls claims settlement exposures, determines proper reserves, claims costs and expense exposures. Reviews all expenses incurred, and oversees attorneys to ensure their activities are appropriate and completed timely. Manages external legal firms to effectively balance legal expenses and outcomes.
  • Staff Management: Controls claims settlement exposures, determines proper reserves, claims costs and expense exposures.   • Customer Relations: Handles escalated customer issues. Resolves rare and/or complex issues requiring a higher level of knowledge.
  • Project Management: Manages scope, schedules and deliverables of multiple projects. Interfaces with multiple departments to ensure that proper implementations adhere to established standards. Communicates and resolves project issues with internal and external departments.
  • Other duties as required: Job may require fulfilling other incidental or related duties as assigned, assisting and training others, and performing duties of higher rated positions from time to time for developmental purposes.


Business Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience handling and overseeing litigation files including legal analysis and negotiations.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in personal lines claims environment or related mentoring/coaching/training/leadership experience.


Certifications

  • Required: Ability to obtain and maintain state insurance licensing as required.
  • Preferred: Professional designations in the insurance industry, such as AIC, FCLA, SCLA or CPCU preferred.


Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent


Other Requirements:

  • Travel may be required to attend conferences, trials, mediations, arbitrations and other required travel or meetings.
  • For this position we offer a flexible schedule within the department operating hours of 8:00 am to 6:30 pm MT, with collaborating hours between 10:00 am to 3:00 pm MT.
  • Colorado Springs Service center is preferred but will consider remote candidates


The pay range for this position is $94,286 - $151,403 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience. The company also offers a full range of medical, financial and other benefits, including eligibility for the company’s performance sharing plan and paid time off such as holidays, vacation, sick and personal holidays.
