Long-term Substitute Special Education

The Delaware Military Academy is looking for a long-term Special Education substitute (September through November 2024). The ideal candidate will hold a State of Delaware Secondary Special Education certification. This teacher will provide individualized instruction to small groups of learners and will support and collaborate with the general education teachers.

Responsibilities Include

  • Use timely data to develop, monitor, implement, and maintain Individualized Educational Plans for identified students in compliance with established timelines.
  • Participate in student focused IEP meetings
  • Support caseload of identified students by offering content, instruction, and accommodations that ensures student achievement.
  • Collaborate with the regular education teachers, to plan and deliver lessons that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards and individualized IEP goals in both small and whole group settings.
  • Create appropriate instructional accommodations and ensure the implementation of applicable testing accommodations
  • Help ensure student audit files are up-to-date and any related documentation to support students’ needs to be in compliance with all Federal and State regulations in regards to timelines, policies and procedures for the purpose of compliance and accountability
  • Communicate with teachers and parents about the needs and progress of the student regularly
  • Communicate and collaborate with service providers to ensure implementation of appropriate services and timely submission of requested reports
  • Participate as part of a larger team of academic professionals to ensure the success of our cadets by working collaboratively with other educators
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications And Education Requirements

Candidates must hold a Special Education Teacher Certification (K-12) from the State of Delaware. Special education teacher experience is preferred. Candidates must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to multitask. The ideal candidate will also have experience using student data to drive instruction and inform decision making. This teacher is expected to work in a professional setting with other grade level and content area teachers. Candidates must demonstrate a firm knowledge of special education laws and requirements.
