Position Summary:

This position reports to the Director, Finance Technology Strategy & Program Management and plays a key role on the team evolving and implementing the Finance Technology strategy and overseeing the Finance Modernization effort.

Background:

The Finance organization is on a multi-year journey to modernize the Technology platforms that support all Finance processes. Our goal is to standardize data management & governance, consolidate and modernize applications and data stores, and leverage Cloud computing over time. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to drive delivery of pan-Finance Technology projects, including Fast Forward, as American Express migrates from a Category IV to Category II regulated Financial Institution, partnering with Technology, Product and Process Owners to deliver our key priorities.

The position is primarily focused on the key areas listed below:

  • Supporting the evolution of the Finance technology strategy
  • Influencing Finance product and platform roadmaps to support delivery of the strategy
  • Implementing the operational frameworks that optimize investments in Finance’s key priorities and clarify interactions between teams
  • Partnering with Technology, Product and Process Owners to deliver our key priorities
  • Managing significant Technology projects with pan-Finance impacts (e.g., Finance Modernization, Project Fast Forward, Lumi)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Engage Product Owners and Tech Leads to help drive ongoing technology investment processes as laid out in the FinTech Playbook to effectively identify and fund Finance’s tech priorities.
  • Build a comprehensive understanding of our multi-year Finance Modernization initiative and commitments.
  • Focus on emerging Capital Reporting, Basel III Endgame and SCCL reporting requirements under Project Fast Forward as a critical priority for delivery.
  • Work with data-sourcing teams to conduct data profiling and mapping activities and assist in creation of detailed data sourcing plans to address new reporting requirements.
  • Track progress against plans, milestones, and elevate delivery risks and work cross functionally to publish status updates for stakeholders and Program Office.
  • Ensure stakeholder requirements are documented, and Technology story points are gathered and groomed to ensure timely and efficient Agile delivery.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure extensive integration and end-user testing activities.
  • Serve as liaison between Product Owners and Technology leads to refresh and maintain roadmaps and milestone plans and stay abreast of key risks.
  • Track, report and communicate progress against plans, milestones, and delivery risks.
  • Assist Finance Modernization program leads to develop recurring and ad hoc communications on objectives, timelines, progress, status and risks to Finance leaders, process owners and Technology leaders (quarterly FinTech Steerco, program Leadership Meetings, Controllership Leadership Team meetings, etc.)
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with our key business partners including but not limited to: Finance Product and Process Owners, Finance Technology Delivery Leads, Technology Delivery Excellence, Technology Finance, Finance Portfolio Management team, Finance Communications, and other SME’s.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of cumulative Finance business/process and/or product management experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business or Analytics preferred
  • Knowledge of Finance systems, operational processes, and interdependencies would be highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of Agile development principles and practices would also be advantageous
  • Project/program management experience supporting large, complex initiatives
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbally), including the ability to synthesize a lot of information into crisp and clear communications
  • Strong relationship management skills and experience collaborating with and influencing multiple stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and time demanding environment
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible, and drive results

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
