Job Scope

The Manager, Materials & Logistics directs the activities of all logistics associates in the department related to the receipt, put-away, storage, picking, and movement of raw material, work-in-process, and finished goods material in the supply chain.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

  • Manages logistics associates to perform the following functions:
  • Receive shipments from suppliers, customers and field service offices.
  • Compare receipts against purchase orders and move material to appropriate locations.
  • Promptly process all receipts requiring special handling (i.e. Refrigerated or Frozen).
  • Interface with purchasing and accounting on receiving exceptions.
  • Separate material requiring special attention.
  • Maintain receiving logs.
  • Deliver non-inventory receipts to recipients.
  • Pick material from inventory and supply instrument and reagent manufacturing operations.
  • Track material shortages for manufacturing and communicate status to all stakeholders.
  • Complete daily cycle counts.
  • Drive company vehicle and move material between on-site and off-site stocking locations.
  • Ensures that work areas are clearly labeled, clean, and efficiently organized for material associates to operate at maximum effectiveness.
  • Manages multiple storage locations for inventory and non-inventory material inclusive of stockrooms, forward stocking locations, on-site warehouses, off-site warehouses, internal cages, external cages, and external storage pods.
  • Works with facilities to design, develop, and implement material storage solutions for instrument, reagent, and non-inventory material.
  • Perform pick transactions on reagent, bioassay, instrument, and field service sales orders.
  • Check orders for quantity accuracy and record and check serial numbers and lot numbers.
  • Prepare products for shipment to customers, partners, and field service offices.
  • Prepare appropriate shipping documentation in compliance with all domestic and international regulations (IATA, EAR, hazmat, dangerous goods, customs, etc).
  • Rate packages for delivery costs.
  • Work directly with logistics carriers to schedule shipments consistent with customer expectations (overnight, ground, LTL, ocean, white-glove, etc)
  • Trace international and domestic packages as needed.
  • Order and restock supplies for shipping (boxes, foam, dry ice, etc)
  • Complete daily cycle counts.
  • Generate reports on product availability and shipment status and communicate effectively with customers, partners, sales, marketing, and internal stakeholders.
  • Works with approved carriers, freight forwarders and customs brokers to ensure exemplary performance.
  • Performs the activities of the team as a backup when needed.
  • Ensures that all processes are conducted according to approved procedures.
  • Processes material transactions quickly, accurately, and completely in the Oracle ERP system to ensure integrity between physical inventory status and system inventory status.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Establishes a facilities layout that promotes safe and efficient operations
  • Maintains the work schedule / vacation schedule and ensures that each operation is staffed during scheduled hours.
  • Ensures that all work is completed on schedule and in compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • When necessary updates or creates for approval any required procedures and training documents.
  • Ensures that all material associates are qualified and properly trained to perform their assigned duties. Maintains a Training Matrix for each material associate that shows the task for which they have demonstrated competency and are approved to perform without direct supervision/observation.
  • Provides forklift training for material associates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, And Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Science, or equivalent required or
  • 5+ Years Experience working in a supply chain role, including planning, purchasing, and/or logistics required
  • 3+ Years Experience in a receiving, warehouse, parts department, stock room, or shipping function or equivalent work experience. required
  • 1+ Years Experience in leadership role with direct reports preferred
  • 1+ Years Experience in a Medical Device, Pharma, or other Healthcare field preferred
  • 1+ Years Experience using an ERP system in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • 1+ Years Experience with oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) preferred
  • 1+ Years Experience in a GMP and/or FDA regulated environment preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of cGMP regulations
  • Working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and Hazmat regulations
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to handle the pressure of meeting tight deadlines
  • Proven time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to organize data and generate reports in MS Excel.
  • Ability to organize and present plans and status updates in MS PowerPoint.
  • Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)-APICS
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
