Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in North Portland plays a vital role as a local and regional leader in serious clinical illness or injury. With around-the-clock expertise for critical health issues, including experts in trauma, heart care, burns, significant wounds, stroke, brain surgery and more, Legacy Emanuel is central to the health of our community and critical to the care of the Northwest.

Responsibilities

Serves as the accountable department manager for the Trauma Program, including Trauma Clinic, Trauma Center, Trauma Registry, and Trauma Nurses Talk Tough. Has responsibility for all daily operational activities including departmental planning related to staffing, scheduling, and budget, ensuring appropriate systems and processes for the efficient delivery of care, and ensuring safe/high quality care and an outstanding experience for patients and their families. This leadership role assumes 24 hours a day, seven days a week responsibility for all department functions. The manager is responsible for maintaining effective interprofessional communication and a positive work environment that supports and embraces the principles of shared governance. The manager is also responsible for ensuring that staff are educated and competent to care for the patients under their care. The manager routinely collaborates; works effectively with physicians, peers and other Legacy leadership to meet the strategic objectives of Legacy.

Qualifications

Education: An academic degree in nursing is required (BSN or MSN/MN); master’s degree required, MSN/MN preferred.

Internal candidates promoting from Assistant Nurse Manager may meet the master’s degree requirement with verification of a master’s degree in progress with an expected completion date within 2 years of the promotion date; progress will be reported periodically to the site CNO.

Experience: Minimum of three years experience in a clinical nursing leadership role required. Demonstrated growth in leadership responsibilities and breadth desired. Previous clinical experience specific to the appropriate area of specialty practice is highly desirable.

Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of clinical operations, including staffing and scheduling, budget management, workflow planning, staff development, quality, safety and patient experience management. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and leadership skills, and a willingness to lead by example. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions are essential.
