Managing Director, Chief of Staff, Office of CIO – SLC Management
What Is In It For You
Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Sun Life, the Managing Director, Chief of Staff, Office of the CIO will work closely with the leadership teams in SLF and SLC to drive key initiatives and projects to enable business outcomes and drive growth for Sun Life.
Given the nature of the CIO, Sun Life position, and the connectivity and leadership accountabilities to both Sun Life Financial (SLF) and SLC Management (SLC), this role will be responsible for working closely with the CIO, Sun Life to maximize effectiveness, efficiency and execution of objectives as follows:
- Support the CIO, Sun Life to manage content and drive key action items and initiatives within and across SLF and SLC
- This spans the strategic to the operational including managing content and driving action items that result from the priorities set by the various SLF & SLC initiatives through:
- Tracking action items for the CIO, Sun Life
- Supporting executive briefings and board related meetings
- Collaborate with staff across the enterprise on special projects, acquisitions and initiatives.
- Interfacing with internal and external partners on behalf of the CIO, Sun Life
- Oversee Director, Strategic Projects & Initiatives (1 direct report).
- Manages multiple initiatives simultaneously to facilitate achievement of SLF & SLC Management’s strategic and operational goals.
- Apply consistent program and project management practices across projects including identifying and establishing key project objectives, timelines and milestones and developing appropriate performance metrics with the business sponsor(s) for program/project.
- Proactive stakeholder management and integration of change management methodologies
- Work collaboratively with peers, leaders and work stream leads to resolve issues and remove roadblocks.
- Clearly communicates current priorities and success metrics.
- Prepares CIO, Sun Life for and follows up on internal and external meetings. When needed, participates directly in meetings and follows up with the relevant parties.
- Represents the CIO, Sun Life acting as proxy as required.
- Maintains prioritized action plans for the CIO, Sun Life and pending deliverables, while addressing appropriate items themselves
- Facilitates collaboration across SLF, SLC Management and Affiliate companies; identifies and implements innovative solutions.
- Collaborates with other members of the Office of the CIO and SLC Strategy & Initiatives to oversee CIO, Sun Life strategic projects and initiatives
- MBA, CFA or advanced degree preferred
- 10+ years of asset management and investment experience, strategic planning, project management and/or implementation
- M&A experience strongly preferred
- Proven experience managing a diverse portfolio of initiatives with competing deadlines
- Big picture thinker – ability to think strategically and creatively to help grow the business over the long-term and through changing environment; also able to navigate the detail to ensure flawless execution.
- Strong planning and project management skills with the ability to prioritize work in alignment with organization strategic goals.
- Analytical and a data driven decision-making mindset
- Excellent project management abilities, including creating timelines, budgets and reports
- Operates with a high level of integrity. Knows what information is sensitive and maintains discretion and confidentiality
