Summary

The Director of CRE will be responsible for leading the Investor CRE and Construction platform at Sunwest by driving originations across the Sunwest footprint, ensuring performance of the existing portfolio, and managing the division’s client relationships. They will uphold and enhance our sales culture at the Bank by promoting the brand, recruiting & coaching new team members, acquiring new customers, and exceeding service expectations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead the Commercial Real Estate division of Sunwest across the entire Western footprint.
  • Drive a strong sales culture in the CRE division resulting in at least $250mm of outstanding originations annually.
  • Recruit strong producers and continue to build the Sunwest recruiting network.
  • Effectively manage the overall CRE team to achieve their annual production goals through active outbound calling efforts, prospecting, COIs and other direct business generation efforts.
  • Partner with marketing department to develop targeted prospecting lists, which includes leverage real estate databases for prospect info.
  • Manage the current loan portfolio to retain and grow existing business relationships as well as establish new relationships through the development and training of all sales and staff.
  • Effectively grow existing depository relationships under the CRE division portfolio and drive new depository relationships as part of a holistic marketing effort to grow both the loan and deposit balances for the Bank.
  • Closely monitor existing portfolio performance to ensure very high credit quality.
  • Partner with the Head of Commercial Lending to continually enhance the Bank’s Real Estate Lending Policy (in conjunction with the Chief Credit Officer).
  • Provide proactive feedback on market pricing and structure in order to co-develop competitive products for Sunwest.
  • Strategically setting guidelines and policy relating to the accurate and timely servicing of the Bank’s CRE loan portfolio.
  • Ensuring the team of Lenders and Support Staff have necessary training, knowledge, and tools to provide customers with high-quality and professional services.
  • Appraising the Bank’s lending/delinquency position and issue management statistical reports to the President/CEO and Board of Directors regarding such position on a regular basis, including monthly updates for Board Meetings.
  • Establishing annual department budget and monitoring performance to budget throughout the year; establishing annual sales goals for lending programs and initiating action to achieve established goals.
  • Evaluate loan requests and make loan recommendations for approval to management and the Board.
  • Analyze financial and credit condition of applicants and determine loan payment capabilities
  • Proactive negotiation credit terms and conditions
  • Accountable for attaining origination and revenue profitability goals as determined by the banks strategic and annual budgeted business plan
  • Manage employee performance which includes establishing and monitoring goals, completing performance evaluations, scheduling and interviewing
  • Manage the day-to day sales operations of originating real estate loans
  • Continually analyze workflow to improve efficiencies
  • Acts as trainer, coach and leader of sales force within the department and cross functionally

  • Attends training and maintains a basic knowledge of procedures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing financial institutions, as they apply to your position and job responsibilities, with an emphasis on the BSA/AML/CIP, Consumer Privacy, Regulation CC, Information Security, Bank Protection Act, FACT-Identity Theft, Information Technology and GLBA.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS in business, finance or related field
  • Minimum of 15 years experience in Commercial Lending
  • Minimum of 5 years as a supervisor or manager
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Strong credit skills and deep real estate knowledge in at least California with the Western US preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce.
  • Experience with derivatives and interest rate swaps.
  • Proven ability to develop and retain business both investor and owner-occupied real estate
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Knowledge of lending and cash management products
  • Knowledge of loan, bank and regulatory policy
  • Ability to analyze loan requests and determine borrowing need and repayment sources
