A Day in the Life

MANUFACTURING DIRECTOR | SITE LEADER – Fort Worth, TX

This position reports to the VP, Manufacturing, Central Region.

Manufacturing operations in Fort Worth focus on the production of the Midas Rex drill system which is part of the Cranial and Spinal Technologies (CST) operating unit. Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) operating unit products are also manufactured at this facility.

The Manufacturing Director | Site Leader is responsible for all safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and people aspects in our manufacturing site in Fort Worth, Texas. This position leads all phases of manufacturing and technical functions to advance existing technology to produce the highest quality Medtronic products. This leader embraces innovation and continuous improvement through the alignment of people, strategy, and culture. You will lead a cross functional manufacturing operation with direct reports of site staff leaders (Engineering, Manufacturing, EHS and OpEx) with a rapidly growing workforce of direct labor and individual contributors. You will coach and provide direction for Technical Functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Implement innovations into practice for continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives, as well as supporting maintenance of business activities.

The Manufacturing Director | Site Leader is responsible for leveraging our MPS (Medtronic Performance System) to establish Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC) targets to run the business, select the key initiatives and projects to improve the business, and collaborate with Operating Units and Global Supply Chain functions to set breakthrough objectives and capacity planning to transform the business.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Implement and execute comprehensive operations strategies that assure success of the organization and accountability for safety, quality, production, cost, and people.
  • Plan and administer budgets, including making budgetary recommendations on capital expenditures and labor requirements.
  • Implement cost reduction, waste reduction, quality improvement, and productivity improvement programs to ensure attainment of key performance metrics and sustainable performance improvements.
  • Walk and check the flow of the value stream daily.
  • Lead existing manufacturing operations to ensure flawless execution and continuous improvement.
  • Employ lean concepts and techniques, working closely with production leadership and OpEx to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Select and develop personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the production function.
  • Lead the creation of the current-state and future-state value-stream maps and the implementation plan for getting from present to future.
  • Lead senior management with a responsibility to drive technical problem resolution, lead effective product introductions, meet quality objectives, customer demand and financial goals.
  • Must set clear priorities and assure performance against goals within those priorities.
  • Recommend and implement training programs to address skill requirements necessary to facilitate internal promotions and job satisfaction to maximize productivity of production employees. As applicable, provides cross-training for production employees to ensure back-up personnel exist for all key positions.
  • Participate in cross-facility initiatives to determine company-wide best practices and the improvement of business processes.
  • Represent Medtronic in the community and in professional organizations at a local or regional level.


Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Experienced Sr Manager / Director – with prior site leadership and/or transformation experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant Manufacturing Management and Leadership experience within Medical Device or a Regulated Industry with 7+ years of Managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant Manufacturing Management and Leadership experience within Medical Device or a Regulated Industry with 7+ years of Managerial experience.


Nice to Have

  • Degree in Engineering or Technical Sciences.
  • Medical Device Manufacturing experience within a cleanroom environment.
  • DMAIC Lean / Six Sigma Certification.
  • Demonstrated use of Lean Manufacturing principles to achieve results.
  • Experience across numerous roles/functions within Manufacturing and Supply Chain with demonstrated success in each area.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with understanding of the P&L and balance sheet.
  • Inclusive leader, who builds trust and demonstrates genuine care for people, respecting their unique differences.
  • Ability to lead teams as well as be a team member, develop talent and hold people accountable to specific time bound objectives
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The incumbent should have excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of employees.
  • Experience in leading large-scale change management.
  • Experience delivering performance coaching and discipline to direct reports.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$165,600.00 - $248,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
