Neurotech Pharmaceuticals is an innovative biopharmaceutical company located in Cumberland, RI, within the realm of Greater Boston’s vast biotechnology landscape. Since our inception more than 20 years ago, we have been developing a proprietary biological drug device combination technology for treatment of a variety of retinal disorders. Our most advanced program is developing a treatment for the orphan disease Macular Telangiectasia Type 2 (MacTel). Our Encapsulated Cell Technology (ECT) platform is designed to deliver a genetically modified neuroprotective factor to slow the progression of this chronic retinal disease.


We are currently seeking to add a Manufacturing Systems Engineer who will be responsible for applying advanced analytical and problem-solving methodologies including mathematical modeling, simulations and control theories to the design, development, and optimization of the state-of-the-art complex mechanical systems. The ideal candidate must be experienced in mechanical engineering design principles of capital equipment and modeling such systems using statics, dynamics, kinematics, and vibration analyses in different phases of product life cycle. They must be highly proficient with current development tools, software, practices, and processes.


This is an on-site role in Cumberland, RI. This is not a hybrid or remote opportunity.

Job Requirements


  • Apply technical expertise to complex tasks with knowledge and understanding of related work areas.
  • Work on complex issues where analysis requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) where skill sets make it appropriate.
  • Utilize mechanical engineering design principles of capital equipment and mechanisms combined with application of static, dynamic, and kinematic analyses.
  • Design and develop mechanical sub-systems including concepts generation, CAD design, analyses, documentation, verification, and Design for Manufacturing & Assembly, and Design for Reliability for current and new products.
  • Perform forward and inverse kinematics, finite element analysis of components and assemblies, 3D tolerance analysis, and different types of modeling using Simulink or MATLAB programming.
  • Participate in hands-on activities including engineering tests and characterizations.
  • Post process the corresponding test results using mechanical engineering principals and statistical theories.
  • Implement best practices in design methodologies, development processes, and tools.
  • Ownership of manufacturing validated and future systems to support implementation and execution validation lifecycle management associated with each system from standalone temperature chambers, semi-automated manufacturing system, automated manufacturing system, to electronic batch records and CGMP software programs.


Education & Experience


  • BS in Robotics/Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent education and work experience
  • 2+ years of mechanical, controls or robotics engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with simulation frameworks and applying simulations to expedite real robot development
  • Packaging / Palletizing Automation experience is a plus
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Experience with manufacturing automated systems and electronic batch reporting is a plus


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Familiarity with FDA/EMEA/USP/EP regulated CGMP requirements.
  • Multi-axis robot programming and integration 6-axis is a plus
  • Programming skills and experience using analytical and simulation tools including: C++, MATLAB, SolidWorks CAD modeling, SolidWorks SIM, and SolidWorks Motion Analysis, TwinCAT, Beckhoff
  • Pneumatic systems integration
  • Machine vision and vision-based precision measurement
  • Precision Mechanical Assembly
  • LabVIEW, experience with sensors and DAQ systems.
  • Experience with motion control, and applied control theories is highly desired.
  • Experience with defining system requirements, writing URS, FS/DS/CS validation documents.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
