Manufacturing Engineer -- Utilities

Your Job

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Water System’s Manufacturing Engineer to join our Utilities department at Georgia-Pacific’s Savannah River Mill. This role will work closely with maintenance, reliability, and other operational departments to ensure safe and reliable operations of the water systems in the utilities area, the application of safety protocols to improve productivity, reduction of costs through process/equipment optimizations and operator knowledge and skill improvements. This position will report to the Utilities Department Area Leader.

The Savannah River Mill offers a unique opportunity to its team members. The mill is in a beautiful part of the country in Effingham County with some of the best school systems in the state. It is close to the coast and the great city of Savannah, GA. The mill has established an excellent relationship with its community and participates in many community events.

What You Will Do

  • You will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe working environment and adherence to regulatory requirements. Identify potential safety hazards, implement preventive measures, and promote a culture of safety awareness among the manufacturing team.
  • Analyze and evaluate manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement, cost reduction, and increased efficiency independently.
  • Work closely with production teams to troubleshoot issues, propose solutions, and streamline operations while implementing measures to drive sustainable improvements.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and compliance with safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to identify and implement equipment upgrades or modifications to improve reliability and performance.
  • Lead or support process improvement initiatives or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Effectively apply the challenge process; coach initiative owners to urgently escalate issues that are prohibiting the delivery of initiative results.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, Mechanical, Environmental or Paper Science Engineering with at least 3 years of industrial experience in a continuous manufacturing environment OR in lieu of a degree, 5 or more years of river water and wastewater treatment areas of a facility.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook
