The UCI Samueli School of Engineering's Master of Engineering degree goes beyond technical training and prepares its graduates for employment in industry. It equips students to maximize career opportunities as technical leaders. In addition to advanced specialized technical training, the UCI M.Eng program focuses on engineering leadership and entrepreneurship, applicable hands-on learning, and team-oriented capstone projects. The program prepares students to become leaders, whether technical managers in large and small companies or entrepreneurs starting their own enterprises.

Your Role on the Team

Applying advanced, specialized student services expertise, advises department / college / school or Graduate Division management, faculty, and students on the most complex student issues; and / or has programmatic responsibility for a complex student affairs function that usually has a discrete budget or budgets, has impact beyond the unit, and involves establishing strategic goals. Is expected to identify systemic problems and issues, and propose solutions to management.

Under the direction of the Faculty Director, the Program Director for the self-supporting Master of Engineering (M.Eng) professional degree program is responsible for the full range of operations of the program. Will work with the Faculty Director in setting overall program strategy and will be the primary person responsible for the day-to-day activities that lead to realization of the vision and attainment of program goals. The primary role of the Program Director is to serve as the face of the program (recruiting, admissions, marketing, events) and partners (mentors, capstones, alumni). A secondary role, in close collaboration with others, is administrative, in terms of the overall program (admissions, assessment, fellowships, financial aid, management) and its finances (budgets, forecasting, reporting). The Program Director will also work closely with Department Chairs, Department Administrative Officers, the Associate Dean for Graduate and Professional Programs, Student Affairs Advisor, Business Office, Career Services, Communications, External Relations team, affiliated faculty, and other staff in all aspects of the program.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $69,500- $83,000 (Annual).

Required

  • Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Demonstrated experience in a self-supporting academic program.
  • Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Advanced knowledge of complex visa and immigration policies, procedures and regulatory requirements for international students and scholars.
  • Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership.
  • Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
  • In-depth knowledge of the field's post-degree employment opportunities and practices.
  • Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting policies & procedures, fellowship analysis & allocation, budgetary financial analysis and reporting techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

Preferred

  • Thorough knowledge of Academic Personnel/HR policies & procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of the field's post-degree employment opportunities and practices.
  • 4-6 years Advanced advising and counseling techniques and experience in a self-supporting academic programs.
