Materials Engineer

Title: Materials Engineer

Location: Oldsmar, FL

Salary: Based on experience

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Essential Functions:

  • Research and develop the use of new or improved raw materials.
  • Oversee and manage the implementation of new or improved raw materials.
  • Research and identify new or alternative suppliers of raw materials.
  • Develop acceptance criteria and testing methods for incoming raw materials.
  • Define standards and process for the mixing of raw materials.
  • Establish safety protocols for the use of dangerous materials.
  • Evaluate materials to ensure compliance with applicable environmental and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering on the use of raw materials in new or improved processes.
  • Collaborate with Supplier Quality Engineering on material declarations and safety data sheets.
  • Collaborate with Applications Engineering and customers on new product introductions.
  • Develop and execute process validations using IQ, OQ, & PQ methods.
  • Analyze and determine root cause of problems and develop solutions addressing root causes.
  • Apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Consistently demonstrate and hold team members accountable to The Roberds Way values.
  • Coaching and Developing Others Identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, empowering, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills.

  • Deliver results of analysis & investigations in a format appropriate for stakeholder audience.
  • Compose, execute, and close a validation protocol and ensure it is accurately logged.
  • Initiate and complete an Internal Change Request.
  • Effectively utilize and support ERP system (GSS), including pulling of data for analysis.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor s degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical field is required.
  • Minimum of two years experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Materials science experience is required. Polymer chemistry experience is desired.
  • Experience working in an ISO certified environment is required; ISO 13485 or 10993 is preferred.
  • Medical device component and/or finished product manufacturing experience is desired.
  • Catheter-based medical device design and manufacturing experience is desired.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to display fine manipulation by constantly using both hands and fingers to inspect, grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.
  • Must be able to operate a computer 50% of the time or more.
  • Must be able to frequently move about inside the manufacturing environment and access machinery.
  • Possess project management skills and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understand and interpret specifications on customer drawings.
  • Basic understanding of the following ISO Standards (13485 and 10993).
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with others and communicate effectively.
