Position Summary

Balco, is a manufacturer of architectural building products. We focus on Expansion Joints, Fire Barriers, Stair Nosings, Mats and Grids, Trenches, Photoluminescent products and Firestop to provide high-quality building solutions. Balco is a dynamic, innovative and progressive company, part of the Engineered Building Solutions division of CSW Industrials, Inc.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the research and design of a company’s new products and systems. They perform various tasks in an engineering department including drafting blueprints, creating test prototypes, and overseeing the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

• Execute research, design and development projects in a timely manner and in accordance with project specifications

• Model parts using Solidworks; create assemblies, part drawings, inspection criteria, and other drawings as required

• Perform finite element analysis using Solidworks Simulation

• Interface with outside vendors to select and specify components

• Design and perform in-house testing to validate design

• Coordinate with third-party test labs to validate design

• Ensure manufacturability of product designs by working with production personnel and suppliers

• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in MS Office Suite

• Proficient in Solidworks or similar modeling software

• Proficient in Solidworks Simulation or similar FEA software

• Knowledge of basic statistics, including control charts and standard deviations

• Ability to read and interpret prints and product specifications

• Ability to identify complex problems, evaluate options, and implement solutions

• Ability to communicate effectively with internal/external customers verbally and in writing

• Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a changing environment

• Ability to manage projects on time and within budget

• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in a similar role

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required

•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required

Other Requirements

• Physical- This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

• Travel – Periodically for test labs or to support Balco’s interest as required

• Maintain familiarity with local education facilities, testing facilities, machine shops and equipment suppliers
