Responsibilities

Location: This is a full time onsite position in West Bethesda, MD.

Peraton is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work directly with our Navy customers on developing R&D systems for use onboard submarines. In this position, you will be working within a government-contractor team on the development, integration, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of R&D tracking and navigation systems used during naval vessel sea trials.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Plan and execute development projects, including defining requirements, estimating costs and schedule, identifying resources needed, identifying tests and test fixtures, etc.
  • Design of electronic enclosures and internal subsystems such as power, cooling, control, mounting, and EMI shielding.
  • You will be evaluating prototypes and operational systems and recommending design modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in system requirements.
  • You will be using CAD software such as SolidWorks to design specialized enclosures, control panels, and mounting brackets and fixtures for manufacture.

Travel to naval bases and aboard naval ship will be required, up to 10%, including lifting and carrying items up to 40 pounds in weight, working in confined spaces, and climbing vertical ladders.

Qualifications

5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD

Mechanical Engineering or closely related degree required.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • An active DoD Secret clearance is highly desirable. At a minimum must be able to obtain an Interim DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Must have demonstrable proficiency with troubleshooting power, grounding, EMI, cooling, and shock issues with instrumentation and electronic equipment enclosures.
  • Must be internally motivated, having a "self-starter" type personality.

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
