Thermacell currently employs 125+ full time employees at our 4 locations: Bedford Massachusetts (Corporate HQ), Buford Georgia (Manufacturing & Distribution), and Hampton Florida (Science & Research Center).

Role Purpose

Thermacell is seeking a resourceful, project focused Mechanical Engineer with a desire to work collaboratively in our cohesive and growing innovative technical team as we develop and deliver the world’s leading spatial mosquito repellant systems. Our team of entomologists, researchers, and outdoor enthusiasts have over 100 years of combined experience. We need a best-in-class Mechanical Engineer to partner with us as we continue to bring to market worry-free, environmentally friendly solutions to biting insects, so people can live life outdoors.

As a key member of our agile, high caliber, and dynamic RD&E team, our newest team member will use creativity, technical aptitude, project management, and physical and analytical tools to drive forward with both business and individual goals and development. The position involves end to end aspects of new product development, from ideation to design, prototyping, testing, documentation, and successful delivery into the marketplace.

We are a small and nimble force and require someone with the technical strength, problem solving expertise, drive, teamwork and integrity to successfully achieve goals using a combination of independence, teamwork, time-management, critical thinking and the desire to continually learn, develop and grow in a fast-paced environment where we also have fun working together cohesively. This position reports to the Engineering Manager in Bedford, MA.

STATUS: Exempt

WORKING HOURS: Typically, between 8-5pm M-F (open to some flexibility)

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Work with experienced engineers in a fast-paced, growing technical group with great career growth opportunities.
  • Design and develop new products, being responsible individually or as a team, depending on project scope, for the full development cycle: from concept development based on ID from Product Team to the successful production launch and ensuing support.
  • Carry out all necessary technical feasibility studies, proof-of-concept projects, and other early technical risk assessment work or technology development projects.
  • Design and execute test plans to ensure performance and quality.
  • Depending on project scope, individually or as a team, be responsible for all technical aspects of a development project, including initial design, proof of concept, prototyping, testing, documentation, and more.
  • Depending on project scope, individually or as a team, be responsible for project-level strategic planning, risk mitigation, schedule updates, and more.
  • Prepare for recurring project meetings and provide technical and project updates and present individual or team technical work for review.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments and outside resources to ensure all aspects of the project are a success.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation as required, including technical drawings, reports, product specifications, test plans, work instructions, and more.
  • Work within existing engineering processes and standards.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and outside partners to ensure responsive and synergistic collaboration and to minimize development timelines.
  • Work collaboratively with the engineering team to ensure work is peer-reviewed and to learn from one another.

Compensation

Compensation for this position will include a competitive base salary and an Annual Target Bonus program-details proved separately. Benefits for this position will consist of vacation benefits at a competitive level & 10 paid company holidays. Additionally, a company shut-down period is offered for one week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

You may start contributing to our 401k after completing 30 days of service (enrolling on the first of the following month). You will be eligible for the employer match up to 4% (base salary + overtime wages - subject to the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) legal limit) after completing one year of service.

Requirements

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • A robust understanding and application of general engineering concepts is a must.
  • Three to five years of direct, hands-on experience in product development is required.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and personal accountability at a project level, not just at the task-level is required
  • Experience with or aptitude towards technical project management skills. Ability to anticipate issues, develop risk mitigation strategies, and understand the cross-functional interdependencies of product development in order to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in the development of high-volume consumer products is a plus.
  • Experience designing plastic parts for injection molding a plus, such as understanding of resins, applications, and manufacturing process.
  • Experience or familiarity with DFM/A, particularly on high-volume products.
  • Experience with CAD, particularly SolidWorks, is required. PDM/PLM experience is a plus.
  • Experience with CFD, FEA, and MATLAB a plus.
  • Experience with validation and verification testing, developing test plans, and comfort using tools, instrumentation, and prototype equipment, including 3D-printing.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and resourcefulness are required. Ability to handle multiple assignments and be agile and adaptable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with change control process and engineering documentation is preferred.
