Who You’ll Work With

When you join Design Group as a Mechanical Team Leader, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world’s leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our Architecture/Engineering Process Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.

What You’ll Do

This mechanical engineering team delivers mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire protection, refrigeration, etc.) design projects for manufacturing facilities in the food, beverage, consumer goods and life science sectors.

Lead and Elevate:

As a pivotal part of our team, you'll take the helm in guiding mechanical and plumbing design professionals. Your role extends to orchestrating the production of design deliverables, adeptly managing departmental workflow and resources, and actively contributing to resource workload projections while crafting accurate cost estimates.

Design Excellence:

At the core of your responsibilities lies the definition, leadership, and implementation of design concepts and development. You'll shoulder the responsibility for upholding the overall quality of design and construction documents, ensuring precision and completeness in every detail. As the designated Engineer of Record, you'll expertly seal construction documents.

Technical Mastery:

Your role extends to seamless technical coordination and communication within and between departments, project managers, and leadership. You'll meticulously review the technical accuracy of work products, leaving no room for error. Collaboration with vendors to oversee equipment sizing, hydronic piping system design, and the selection of mechanical equipment will be second nature to you.

Comprehensive Expertise:

Conducting site evaluations and studies, including the preparation of detailed technical reports, is integral to your responsibilities. You'll optimize the utilization of components, materials, and tools, enhancing efficiency across projects. Simultaneously, you'll review, edit, and develop project specifications and provide invaluable assistance to project managers during proposal development, including hours calculation, sheet count, scope of work delineation, project strategy definition, and constraints clarification.

Streamlining Processes:

You'll play a pivotal role in preparing RFPs for subconsultants, 3rd party resources, and specialty consultants, ensuring thoroughness and attention to detail. Your discerning eye will review and succinctly summarize bids, enabling informed recommendations on contract awards. In parallel, you'll spearhead the development of standards and best practices to optimize quality and efficiency within the department.

Active Involvement:

Participating in local, regional, and national organizations that influence the development of the profession or regulatory guidelines will be integral to your role. As a mentor and guide to fellow professionals within the department, you'll provide invaluable support and resources. Performance feedback and annual merit reviews for the design team will be a regular facet of your commitment.

Driving Growth:

Actively contributing to the organization's growth and development, you'll play a pivotal role in marketing proposal development and the active recruitment of new Barry-Wehmiller Design Group professionals. Administering operations in alignment with company policies, priorities, and budget constraints underscores your commitment to operational excellence.

Daily Impact:

Your skills and expertise will leave an indelible daily impact, further strengthening our relationships with clients and fellow team members.
