Among other functions, the medical director will help to develop and improve the internal employee health programs and develop and grow the external occupational medicine programs. This includes, but is not limited to, developing, implementing, and maintaining a focused occupational health program; developing guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols related to a range of occupational health issues such as, but not limited to, treatment of injuries in the workplace, exposures to infectious or toxic substances, applicable local and state workplace safety laws, and OSHA requirements; developing and managing medical surveillance programs for pre-employment and periodic health maintenance to manage health risks in the workplace (e.g. COVID-19, influenza, MMR, PPD, Hepatitis B virus, tetanus, etc.), including required immunizations and screenings; ensuring that specific assessments and immunizations align with staff's roles; collaborating with the Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety and/or the Director of Security to evaluate unsafe work situations and promote worksite evaluations to include mitigating strategies; and evaluating, diagnosing and treating internal and external staff's work-related injuries and illnesses, as needed, either personally or by the other providers in the department.
Recruitment of external clients for the occupational medicine program and development of the program
Working collaboratively with clinic staff, provides high-quality occupational health care to an assigned panel of patients;
Using electronic medical record, maintains detailed and timely chart notes and codes visits as appropriate for billing purposes;
Sees regularly scheduled patients, as well as urgent care and walk-in visits as needed within a schedule template;
Administers or orders appropriate diagnostic tests and reviews lab results in a timely manner;
Conducts patient communication as needed and provides patient education as required;
Provides necessary referrals for specialty care according to protocols and standards, timely reviews consult reports and speaks with consultants directly as required;
Orders appropriate in-house referrals to nutrition, case management, adherence counseling and other services as needed;
Completes patient forms and letters in a timely manner;
Continually develops and maintains clinical expertise in relevant fields of medicine, including those listed above;
Provides clinical and management supervision for other providers as required;
Develops and maintains health care standards relevant to the focus populations
Collaborates with Nursing and Operations to assure a positive patient experience and clinical care;
Leads and participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities;
Works to help develop assessment tools and interventions striving to address the needs of the focus populations;
Promotes the programs within and outside the Center;
Attends and participates in all required staff meetings and trainings;
Education/Job Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited school
Possesses or eligible for an unrestricted New Jersey Medical License, CDSR, and DEA license
Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and in Occupational Medicine
At least five years of post-training experience in the practice of medicine
