Requirements
Follow laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results accurately and efficiently; keep work area clean and orderly. Adhere to laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedures, document all quality control testing, maintenance and calibration performed, and follow the procedures when quality control is not within the established acceptable level of performance. Document all corrective action taken when the test systems deviate from the established performance specifications. Serve as technical resource by participating in staff training, answering questions of other professionals, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. Identify and communicate abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel, the pathologist, the patient physician, or nurse; report mandated information to the public health department or other designated officials; maintain patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential. Maintain medical laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies. Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers by following established standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations; and serve and protect the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements. Must have experience with the following in order to complete the above-mentioned tasks: Demonstrates general knowledge of standards in medical laboratory techniques, procedures, and safety precautions. Experience with LIS computer systems and software such as Word, Excel. Experience with Beckman Coulter, Roche, Siemens, or Cepheid analyzers. Basic familiarity to software used on specialized automated analyzers. Experience with centrifuges, microscopes, and pipettors as well as general office equipment. Experience in an acute patient care environment. Experience working independently with minimal supervision. Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Chemical and Physical Biology or related field, and at least four (4) years of occupational experience as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
