Compass Health is currently looking for a Clinician I or Clinician II for our Intensive Outpatient team at Bellingham, WA!

What You Will Be Performing

The Clinician I functions as a member of the Intensive Outpatient Program. This service is a home- and community-based mental health, high-intensity treatment service that provides a multi-disciplinary treatment team approach to assessed individuals in the greatest need of these services. Team members work together to provide intensive coordinated and integrated treatment as described in an individual service plan. Services are designed to rehabilitate individuals who are experiencing severe mental illness symptoms in the community; thereby, a main goal is to avoid more restrictive levels of service such as psychiatric inpatient hospitalization or residential placement and facilitate step down to more traditional outpatient services when ready.

The Clinician II provides direct, supportive, and ongoing coordination of therapeutic services to assist clients with behavioral health disorders achieve the highest level of independence and stability possible in their community. The Clinician II provides a range of clinically indicated services including but not limited to individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and case management services for adults/older adults with behavioral health disorders. This position is responsible for assessing client functioning and needs, and partnering with the client to develop an individually tailored care plan designed to promote recovery. The Clinician II also serves as a treatment team member, provides back up to other team members as needed, and may also provide clinical supervision to Master’s or Bachelor’s-level Clinicians and/or Interns as appropriate.

  • Behaves in an ethical and professional manner consistent with agency policy, state law, and licensing entities if applicable.
  • Complies with all accurate and appropriate charting, coding, and billing procedures as required by the regulatory organizations.
  • Documents delivery of services in the medical record. Completes all paperwork to agency standard and within required timelines.
  • Meets or exceeds service hour expectations and/or response time expectations established by the agency.
  • Completes client assessments in accordance with the DSM and other external and internal requirements, and as qualifications allow.
  • Accepts primary responsibility for the treatment of a caseload of clients.
  • Establishes a treatment plan and goals with client and evaluates progress throughout treatment.
  • Routinely assesses for risk issues including danger to self and others, and develops plans with client to mitigate those risks.
  • Provides individual psychotherapy and other medically necessary behavioral health services to adults/older adults. Whenever possible, treatment approaches employing Evidence-Based Practices will be used.
  • Provides group therapy including planning, implementing, and facilitating groups for identified clients as assigned.
  • Monitors compliance with court orders as needed: delivers services as stated in the order, seeks extensions when indicated, and completes all required documentation.
  • Works collaboratively and coordinates with psychiatric services, emergency services, other treatment team members, etc.
  • Coordinates services with community agencies (e.g. DSHS, DDD, Courts, etc.) and works in context of a treatment team as needed and appropriate.
  • Makes appropriate referrals for auxiliary services such as drug and alcohol services when clinically indicated.
  • Coordinates care with primary care and collaborating professionals from other systems as well as natural supports as appropriate.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled supervision and team meetings.
  • Remains compliant with required trainings and certifications.
  • Understands and practices safekeeping of client protected health information per Compass Health’s HIPAA and other agency policies and procedures.

Program Specific Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides intensive services to persons with severe and persistent behavioral health disorders with complex needs, diverse diagnoses, and multi-system involvement.
  • Provides outreach to client homes and facilities relevant to client care including hospitals, jails, medical facilities, and community organizations.
  • Participates in 24/7 on-call pager rotation.
  • Provides after hours on-call crisis phone intervention and after hours outreach to hospitals, emergency rooms, and triage facilities.


What You Will Bring With You

  • BA/BS/BSW Degree in a Behavioral Science related field. (Clinician I)
  • MA/MS/MSW Degree in a Behavioral Science related field. (Clinician II)
  • 2 years of experience in human services preferred.
  • Qualifies as a Mental Health Professional (MHP) as defined by WAC preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Evidence-Based Practices, or interest and ability to learn.
  • Washington State Approved Supervisor Training must be completed prior to providing clinical supervision.
  • Individuals who do not already hold a license or associate license through the Washington State Department of Health must submit Agency Affiliated Counselor application upon hire and be approved by the DOH.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License including vehicle and appropriate insurance, if applicable.

  • Ability to pass pre-employment criminal background check, which may or may not include an additional search by DSHS.
