A Food Microbiologist is responsible for reporting the microbiological analysis of raw materials, packaging materials, finished products, shelf-life samples and market complaint samples through microbiological procedures such as sampling, preparing culture media, sterilization of culture media etc.
Through knowledge of aseptic techniques.
A Food Microbiologist should have reading, writing, and communication skills, mathematical ability to calculate, ability to plan, organize and prioritize
She/he must be able to handle pressure and work in teams.
Perform more complex testing on samples (i.e. Elisa, Pet Food Testing, USP 61/62, etc.)
Support Method validation activities.
Microbiology Culture identification.
Perform maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of assigned equipment and systems in order to meet testing deadlines; ensure all equipment and systems are operating within established calibration guidelines; notify manager promptly of calibration failures and repair needs.
Ensure compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensure that SOPs are accurate, up-to-date and parallel all required regulatory documents.
Write, revise and review SOPs in a timely manner as required.
Participate in cross technology educational program within the laboratory to learn all laboratory functions
Assist with laboratory compliance audits and laboratory safety audits
Assist with special projects as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor degree in Microbiology or Biology preferred or any other relevant field
3-5 years of experience in Food Microbiology lab is preferred.
Salary:
The salary for this posting is $45,000 - $55,000 per year depending on experience.
