TECHFORGE SOLUTIONS

Modeling & Simulation Engineer (Intelligence Services)

LOCATION: On-Site; Dayton, OH; Remote (with special access)

ELIGIBILITY: US Citizen

CLEARANCE: Top Secret Clearance required.

POSITION: Engineer / Analyst I, II, III

GROUP: Intelligence Research Services

DESCRIPTION:

TECHFORGE Solutions, a TECHFORGE company, is looking for an experienced and talented software engineer to join our Modeling and Simulation (M&S) development team in the Dayton, OH office. We are looking for a senior level software engineer to work with a diverse team of software engineers and analysts to explore and develop solutions in support of AFRL, NASIC, and DoD and Intelligence Communities. The candidate will be expected to master and evolve existing Modeling & Simulation frameworks (AFSIM) and codebases pursuant to customer needs. The candidate will also be expected to incorporate evolving scenarios and models into AFSIM, while performing testing and verification. Product development will be performed using modern Agile software development practices.

The ideal candidate should be able to turn the information about a physical system (e.g. a missile, ground based weapon system, or aircraft) into complex digital model that would then perform accurately in simulated environments. Complimentary skills include aerospace engineering, whereby the engineer can model the mechanical/aerodynamic conditions or an electrical engineer who can accurately model the electronics and electromagnetic spectrum characteristics of the target systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Generate and maintain digital models of physical and electronics systems in accordance with well-established production procedures.
  • Analyze scenarios, predict results and compare with digital simulation.
  • Conduct post processing and data reduction.
  • Write analytical reports and develop briefings for team members and clients.
  • Work independently in a self-directed manner and in a collaborative team environment.

The ideal candidate will configure digital representations of complex military systems to support operational utility, asset vulnerability, and concept of operations assessments within a synthetic simulation environment. You will work with domain experts to understand the nuances of specific systems (or classes of systems) and use abstraction techniques to model them at the mission-level. You will assemble known information when available and use engineering judgement to fill in the blanks to represent real world hardware, software, or processes used in military operations.

You will coordinate with other model developers to plug capabilities into a greater system-of-systems environment used to analyze large scale mission vignettes. In the process, you will become a subject matter expert in the system types that you model.

You must be able to manage your time effectively and interface with customers regularly. In addition, beyond simply meeting project milestones and deadlines, the ideal candidate sees modeling & simulation as a tool to empower decision makers and provides capabilities at the speed of relevance rather than endlessly pursuing “the perfect model”.

TRAVEL: The role will be On-Site. The role is primarily on-site, as it will require regular (weekly) travel, 3-5 days per week, to the client facility for primary work-related activities and our offices in Beavercreek, OH; as necessary for team collaboration, client meetings, and/or presentations. Remote positions may be authorized as long as the employee has consistent and regular access to JWICS, SIPR, and NIPR during normal working hours.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • All candidates must be U.S. Citizens.
  • All candidates must pass a full scope background check.
  • A current Top Secret (or higher) level U.S. government security clearance is required.
  • B.S. degree in Mathematics, Science, Physics, Engineering, or equivalent field
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Prior project experience utilizing the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM) and an understanding of how modeling & simulation supports decision-making processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 2+ years of experience creating digital aerodynamic models.
  • 2+ years software development experience.

  • Expertise and experience native models, plugins, extensions, command syntax, and scripting in an AFSIM context.
  • Expertise and experience with Application, Scenario, and Simulations.
  • Experience with other mission-level simulation frameworks.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience working with classification handling and marking protocols.
  • Ability to assess the accuracy and effectiveness of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Conduct data analysis and orchestration of a large volume of data sources, threat indicators, and inputs.
  • Must possess and exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess and exhibit the ability and desire to work in a remote, collaborative, team environment.
  • Must possess functional experience with remote collaboration tools (e.g. Teams, WebEx, Meet, Zoom, etc.);
  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% as needed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Mathematics, Science, Physics, Engineering, or equivalent field +4 years applicable experience; Masters degree +2 years applicable experience; or PhD +1 years applicable experience.
