POSITION SUMMARY: Assists with duties assigned by the classroom teacher to enhance the learning of all students.
Essential Functions
Play the piano as an accompanist for rehearsals and performances (choir only).
Lead sectional rehearsals.
Provide specific instruction on instrument(s) of expertise.
Chaperone and supervise students during classes and concerts, including possible travel.
Work directly with teachers to carry out specific tasks related to student’s needs.
Accepts direction from classroom teacher.
Under direction of the classroom teacher, learns techniques for implementing music program.
Assists the teacher in specific routine activities such as drills, reinforcement, developing verbal and listening communication skills, and performance-building exercises.
Assists with field trips.
Helps collect resources for use in the classroom.
Assists at times with additional responsibilities and assignments as needed by the teacher or principal.
Essential Skills And Abilities
Ability to understand limited role of music assistant with respect to teacher responsibilities.
Ability to move within building and classrooms.
Ability to relate and communicate to students regardless of their needs.
Ability to interact effectively with staff and parents.
Ability to safely supervise children in all areas of the building, inside and outside.
Proficient with computer using MS Office and Google programs, printer, fax and phone.
Basic Requirements
Minimum of sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited college or university
Advanced skills on the piano and/or band/orchestra instruments.
Teacher certification preferred.
Friendly, helpful attitude in working with students and staff.
Equipment Used
Piano or other musical instrument(s).
Standard office equipment.
