Music Teacher – Elementary School

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. State approved certificate or other legal credentials required.

  • Degree required in area of major study.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 4. Bachelor’s Degree in Music required.

REPORTS TO: School Principal

SUPERVISES: General music and choral music activities at Elementary School and related functions.

Job Goal

  • To help each student acquire knowledge of the basic

elements of music, including melody, rhythm, harmony, and form.

  • Cultivate a broader working knowledge of Music appreciation through choral music, with emphasis on the development of large and small performing groups and solo performances.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and the times designated.
  • Provides an instructional program to meet the needs of all students including students with disabilities.
  • Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and - in harmony with the goals - establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with goals establishes clear objections for all lessons, units, projects, and the like.
  • Assesses student accomplishments on a regular basis.
  • Prepares all budget requests for the area of involvement.
  • Introduces students to instrumental music. Provides beginning instruction and develops fifth -grade band
  • Coordinates transportation requests with assistant principal.
  • Distributes and collects all equipment.
  • Prepares and presents at least two concerts a year.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As found in the Agreement Between the Kent County Teachers Association and The Board of Education of Kent County. Ten (10) month position.

SALARY LANE: Teacher's lane. Step established by the Superintendent.

BARGAINING UNIT: Kent County Teachers Association.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
