Responsible for daily network engineering tasks, including design, configuration, implementation, maintenance, support, and problem resolution. Follows and contributes to departmental procedures, policies, and standards. Provides technical leadership and guidance to less experienced team members. Continually enhances departmental knowledge and skills.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent technical experience.
Licenses/Certification
Cisco CCNA required.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years current experience as a Network Engineer in a large-scale inter-network environment with proven complex network design experience.
Essential Functions
Designs, implements, and supports local, metropolitan, and wide area networks. Configures and maintains routers, switches, CSU/DSUs, and other network devices with direction from senior level staff.
Participates in network planning, architecture design, and engineering. Supports senior level staff with integrating and schematically depicting network architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission, signaling links and protocols into into complete network configurations.
Regularly interacts with user community in order to understand business needs and requirements related to the design of new networking technologies.
Evaluates new product offerings makes recommendations to senior level staff and management.
Solicits feedback from senior level staff in the analysis, solution, and documenta-tion of network issues and problems. Demonstrates skillful judgment when escalating is-sues and communicating status to senior staff members.
Supports and contributes to development, communication, implementation, and maintenance of network design policies, standards, and procedures.
Participates on multifunctional project teams within IS and across lines of business as required to support business requirements.
Coaches, mentors, and provides feedback to less experienced team members regarding departmental procedures, policies, and standards that pertain to the Network Engineering department.
Solicits feedback and guidance of department best practices from senior team members and management.
Continually enhances knowledge of Network Engineering standards in order to achieve departmental success and professional growth.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Applied knowledge and capabilities in demonstrating basic skills related to network engineering including: Cisco IOS configuration, Topologies (i.e., Ethernet, Wireless 802.11 A, B, G, N 802.16 D & E), Protocols (i.e., TCP/IP), Network Management architecture and configuration within management platforms such as Solarwinds and Cisco Works or Cirrus, Routing; RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP and Static Routes, Telco (i.e., T1/Private Line, Frame Relay, MPLS, ISDN (BRI/PRI), Broadband), Protocol analysis and problem determination
Current working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system software.
Ability to contribute to projects and adhere to Project Management required processes and standards within the organization.
Capable of working independently and delivering appropriate and timely feedback to Senior team members and management as required.
