About the Job:

We are currently seeking a News Editor to join our dynamic team. This role involves overseeing multiple news websites under the IBT Media brand and coordinating with the Speed Desk on stories aligned with this vertical. The ideal candidate will be a versatile professional capable of balancing editing, writing, and pitching duties, with a willingness to contribute directly to news coverage. We are looking for a generalist comfortable covering a range of topics, including politics, pop-culture, and breaking news.

Hours and Location:

This position offers flexible working hours and is fully remote, with hybrid options available for candidates located near our office in New York.

Responsibilities:

• Flag breaking news and trending stories, and work with reporters to develop timely and informative news coverage.
• Edit and write news stories that are accurate, engaging, and informative.
• Manage editorial calendars and ensure that all content is delivered on time and aligned with the organization's editorial mission.
• Collaborate with reporters, producers, and other members of the editorial team to ensure that all stories are effectively curated, edited, and promoted.
• Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources to identify stories and trends that are relevant to our audience.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key sources and contributors.
• Ensure that all content is optimized for SEO and social media.
• Manage a team of reporters and assignment editors to ensure that all content is high-quality, accurate, engaging, and rapid.
• Develop and implement editorial guidelines and standards.
• Collaborate with other departments, such as design and development, to ensure that all content is visually appealing, user-friendly, and optimized for different platforms.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in an editorial role, including a minimum of 2 years in a leadership capacity within a newsroom.
• Proven track record of driving audience growth and engagement.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent writing and editing skills, with a comprehensive understanding of AP style and other editorial guidelines.
• Proficiency with various CMS and editorial tools.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
• Experience with data-driven decision making and audience analytics.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
