Newspaper Reporter

Duties:
Produce original coverage for a local-regional-national audience by conducting interviews, seeking out source documents, field reporting, and analyzing reports, data, and trends, among other approaches.
Follow major stories within a beat closely and be prepared, including through pre-writing, to rapidly cover major and breaking developments.
Bring fresh ideas for coverage to the table on a daily basis.
Develop a pipeline of feature stories to be reported and crafted over time.
Travel to attend events and hearings, conduct on-the-ground reporting, interview sources, and take photographs.
Attend department training and seminars.
Work flexible days and hours that may include nights and weekends.
Job requirements:
Five years of experience as a professional newspaper reporter.
Resident of California.
Clear and concise writing following the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics and The Epoch Times reporting guidelines.
Ability to tell complex stories in an accessible and engaging way; Strong narrative skills for feature articles.
Acumen for analyzing data, reports, and trends.
The annual base pay range for this role is between $55,000 and $70,000. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range accordingly to the selected candidate's experience, location, technical skills, and other factors.
