Nuclear Design Engineer

Talascend is currently seeking an experienced Nuclear Design Engineer for a long-term contract career opportunity,

100% remote.

Candidates may reside anywhere in the continental USA; but must be eligible to work for any employer without sponsorship now, or in the future.

OVERVIEW:

Join our team of nuclear engineering experts to contribute to the design and analysis of advanced nuclear reactors. You'll play a crucial role in optimizing fuel management, conducting sensitivity studies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform core design and analysis activities, including fuel management optimization, power distributions, reactivity coefficients, control rod worth and shutdown margin, sensitivity and uncertainties, and support of reactor operational interfaces, consistent with required functional and quality requirements.
  • Design and analyze new systems to solve complex problems.
  • Execute sensitivity studies to validate modeling assumptions including meshing, physics coupling, transport options, cross section preparation, fission product treatment, spatial kinetics, etc., and help build corrected methods if necessary.
  • Maintain documentation of analysis results and neutronic design solutions.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or equivalent; Advanced degree preferred with 2+ years of nuclear analysis experience.
  • Strong computational expertise and proficiency in nuclear engineering software.
  • Experience with nuclear engineering software such as DIF3D, MC2, PARTISN, MCNP, Serpent, SCALE, PARCS, APA, CASMO/SIMULATE, DRAGON, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of nuclear and/or general numerical methods (e.g. PDEs, dynamics, deterministic and stochastic particle transport, isotopic depletion, perturbation theory, nuclear data, kinetics, etc.).
  • Knowledge of nuclear reactor design concepts or willingness to quickly learn.
  • Experience in core design and analysis, interfacing with Operations and Reactor Engineers is advantageous.
  • Desired experience in transient analysis, thermal hydraulics, and fast reactor operations.
  • Ability to perform professional-quality software development and strong programming skills are a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills, with professionalism in regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with NQA-1 environments and maintaining software enhancements and bug fixes.
