Head of Operations at Getro

As a Head of Operations at Getro, you’ll be crucial in making sure the company is working like a well oiled machine, owning functional operations responsibilities like legal, accounting, financial planning, and HR/culture/hiring. You’ll have 100% transparency on everything happening in the company, and will work alongside Evan, our CEO, to make sure the company is running smoothly. You’ll learn how to run a SaaS company at cash flow positive alongside executing an ambitious and innovative growth plan. You’ll work with the best tools on the market, making sure your time is being spent in the highest leverage way possible.

Getro is on a mission to unlock the hidden potential within professional networks, transforming how people discover and leverage warm introductions for hiring and sales.

We work with 800+ of the most powerful, connected professional networks in the world — including venture capital funds (Lerer Hippeau), web3 organizations (Polygon), accelerators (Techstars), membership communities (QueerTech), economic development organizations (Good Life CNY), universities (University of Toronto), and more. They use Getro to make better introductions for their members and measure the outcomes of the introductions they make.

Our Products

  • GetroJobs, which automatically aggregates jobs across a network of companies, making network opportunities visible;
  • GetroConnect, which allows talent within the network to connect with those opportunities and companies, facilitating introductions and referrals.

If you’ve ever hired or been hired through a referral, you know how powerful the right introduction can be. That’s the power of Getro!

You, As a Person

  • You’re a high energy, passionate person. You bring brightness to the rooms you’re in
  • You care about the culture of the companies you work in, and you like being proactive in making sure people are being treated well
  • You love being in the details of things. Your friends would describe you as being highly organized, analytical, a planner, and driven. You know how to get shit done and have a very high throughput.
  • You’re able to switch between tasks quickly, managing multiple concurrent projects and tracking priorities.
  • You practice committed ownership - you’re experienced owning projects from beginning to end, you ask for buy-in to make better decisions, but aren’t paralyzed without it. When things go wrong, you accept responsibility for your part without blaming others, and share your learnings openly
  • You pride yourself in making rational arguments, and often search for facts before making judgements.
  • You thrive in situations of high uncertainty, and even chaos. You understand how fast things can change in a startup, and you’re not someone who will jump ship when things get a little messy; in fact, you’re the one who takes time to help others calm down.
  • You work between the CT and CEST time zones

Requirements

  • Experience working at a pre Series B startup. This is critical for us because we need to know that you understand what it’s truly like to work at an early stage company. If you haven’t worked early stage full time, but you have other types of experience there, we’re open to hearing about that.
  • Min. 5 years in startup operations, finance, consulting, or general management
  • Effective, concise written communicator
  • Strong data orientation / analytical skills

A Week In The Life

  • Monday Morning: Start the week with an async Loom alignment with our CEO to prioritize open projects and flag any business risks with your mitigation plans. Because you have experience reporting to a CEO, and you’ve been there and seen it before, you’re able to synthesize all the fronts you have open into less than 5 minutes of content aimed at driving approval and awareness to ensure you get a quick response back.
  • Tuesday: Run a meeting with our external accountants to dig into a recent 30% jump in software expenses you saw in the last monthly close. Collaborate with the Engineering team to understand the drivers of this jump, and how we should forecast this cost going forward.
  • Wednesday: Prepare and finalize a vendor order form to assist the sales team in closing a new deal. You realize this task is repetitive and frustrating, so you build a new process to automate this next time. You also reviewed some redlines from the prospect on the deal, and have advised the Sales team on how to tackle those objections.
  • Thursday: Approve a proposal from our Business Ops Manager to change our eSignature software tool. You’ve already worked with her to make sure that she’s aligned with all internal stakeholders, researched alternatives, and has estimated the cost savings to confirm the migration is worthwhile. You decide to update our cost approval process based on some learnings from this experience, which you do in Guru, our internal knowledge management system.
  • Friday Morning: Prepare the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the upcoming board meeting and the next company All Hands presentation. Talk with the functional leads to understand any positive or negative changes from last month so you can include that context in this content.
  • Some Projects You’ve Worked On Over the Last 2-3 Months:
    • Legal Suite Update: Collaborated with lawyers and the VP of Engineering to update our legal documentation suite, including the privacy policy, terms of use, and more. Key to success was understanding our product functionality, current laws, and helping to craft customer-friendly wording so it is also compliant.
    • Tax Compliant Billing Practices: Worked with our software tools, accountants, and the Customer Success team to roll out tax compliant billing practices in the countries and states where we have Tax Nexus. This project required integrating new billing systems, training the team, and ensuring that our billing processes were aligned with regulations.
    • Business Continuity Documentation: You showed up with curiosity, and identified an area of the business managed by a single individual. You collaborated with that person’s manager to ensure there was documentation in place, and team cross training to ensure business continuity and that this teammate is able to take vacation in peace!
    • Running our Company Summit: leading up to the summit, you helped the team to set our next quarter goals and be ready to present them at the summit. As part of that process, you confirmed for the CEO that those goals are sufficient for us to hit our financial goals (with some margin). As part of the summit you asked for function leads to make presentations, found an external coach to present a session on giving feedback and designed a game for the team to play in the midst of all the content!
Compensation And Benefits

  • Salary: $110,000-130,000
    • We decide salaries based on the cost of living where you're based and your level of experience
  • $200 / month cash coworking stipend
  • 75% of healthcare plan of choice covered (or stipend if not US based)
  • 100% remote, 100% flexible: We trust each member of our team to work when they wish, and from a location they choose (between the CT and CEST time zones). We believe in working smarter, not harder.
  • Generous Employee Stock Options with an attractive strike price
  • Unique culture: we are humans first and believe that work is more fulfilling when we can show our full selves to the people we work with
  • Make an impact: help shape the path of an early-stage team at a critical point in our trajectory

About Getro

Our team:

  • Getro started in 2017 when Maveric and Evan, our cofounders, decided to leave their recruiting agency to build a scalable platform to help people find meaningful work. They were quickly accepted into Techstars with their idea.
  • Maveric and Evan are multi-time, experienced founders, and have known each other for 15 years
  • Getro has been a remote-first company since its inception, 3 years before Covid. This has helped us build a nuanced set of best practices around working remotely.
  • 18 team members across 7+ countries (Hear from Ted & meet Thomas from our team)
  • As a fully remote company, we don't have offices, but we do get together virtually and in-person for Summits (Germany, Cape Town, San Francisco, Portugal...)

How We Work

We're ambitious but realistic - we know anything worth doing takes time. We trust each member of our team to work when they wish, and from a location they choose. We believe in working smarter, not harder - we don't value presenteeism and we're not impressed by long working hours. Above all, we value the contribution of each individual and take seriously our responsibility to enable you to work on things you love. These aren't just words - they're part of everything we do, including how we design our products.

One Last Thing

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Getro we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this role, or others. :)
