OPERATIONS MANAGER

Job Purpose

The Operations Manager reports to the Plant Manager and will be responsible for supporting the operation’s overall business strategy by providing leadership and direction to the plant’s Operations Team. The Operations Manager does this by ensuring the facility provides outstanding products and services to its customers, through high quality, competitive costs, and on-time delivery, by helping to drive continuous process improvements and the implementation of new technologies and by ensuring the facility operation is in compliance with Company policies. The Operations Manager needs to be a person who can ensure the implementation of solid systems and processes. He/she also needs to be a leader, who can communicate the need for cultural change to a proud workforce and motivate action and results.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior managers in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans
  • Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration
  • Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity
  • Work with program managers in the development of financial and budgetary plans
  • Analyze current operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement where necessary
  • Provide a high level of leadership and management sufficient to motivate, develop, and guide the organization to achieving operational goals and objectives
  • Direct operations to ensure compliance with prescribed quality, cost, delivery, and other performance standards
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and effective customer relations
  • Foster an operations environment that provides a safe and environmentally responsible facility
  • Select, train, develop, and motivate employees to maximize individual potential, achieve operational effectiveness
  • Foster employee development, accountability, and responsibility to ensure ongoing organizational capability
  • Interact with team members to develop relationships in a work environment that promotes respect, open discussion, and communication
  • Coordinate efforts of operations team by establishing procurement, production and engineering services policies and practices
  • Direct work order assignments and set training requirements
  • Evaluate and monitor subordinate performance and resolve problems
  • Prioritize production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply
  • Schedule daily priorities, obtaining support from other departments to sustain operations
  • Set clear and consistent group objectives aligned with Company’s strategic priorities and interact with all levels of management
  • Continually seek methods to improve quality and productivity. Look for ways to streamline and complete tasks at a more efficient level
  • Review performance data to measure productivity against goals and to determine areas that need improvement
  • Improve processes and the implementation of new technologies to ensure facility operation is in compliance with Company policies
  • May establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives and procedures, conferring with Plant Manager and Human Resources
  • May maintain plant property and equipment in good condition to ensure compliance with governmental regulations and to ensure effective and economical operations

Education & Experience

  • BS in Engineering or MBA preferred
  • Experience with lean and 6-sigma
  • Minimum 8 years supervisory or management experience in electronic contract manufacturing dealing with complex electro-mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Background in reflow, wave soldering, all SMT processes, and the related equipment, Thru-Hole technology, electromechanical systems integration/assembly, and process development with the ability to serve as a lead for all production-related issues
  • Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, and project management skills
  • Ability to multi-task, strong time management skills, strong analytical skills
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and driving projects to completion
  • High sense of urgency and commitment to execution
  • Proven track record of problem solving and continuous improvement
  • Driven, energetic, self-assured professional with high personal integrity
  • Ability to develop effective, positive interpersonal relationships
  • Proficient use of technology including MS Office/Google Suite and Internet resources expected
  • Experience with safety compliance and safety management system

Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office and a manufacturing environment. Required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, bend; talk and hear in person; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; repetitive motion. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally may need to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects.
