Optimization Producer (AJC)

To help us achieve this, we are seeking a producer to join the optimization team in day-to-day execution of our strategy across the wide range of content published on AJC.com each day.

This person will execute against our optimization strategies under the guidance of the Optimization Editor and Optimization Lead Producer. This person will work with reporters and editors on SEO optimization, headlines, packaging and presentation, cross-linking and more to ensure that we are presenting our top news to our audience in the best manner possible and driving engagement.

You may work on a variety of projects to help determine how to extend reach and increase engagement, such as test, measure and iterate to build audience and increase engagement. You will need to have a good understanding of metrics-driven audience measures.

In This Position You Will

• Contribute to and flawlessly deliver on the execution of daily content plans for coverage to help achieve goals of increasing discoverability and engagement
• Optimize articles and other content for SEO
• Follow the plan for the daily coverage and make seamless hand-off between shifts
• Makes suggestions to Lead and Editor for increasing audience or on-article engagement as well as process improvements
• Ensures placement, prioritization and optimization of breaking news (during shift hours) as directed
• Always execute seamlessly to showcase our highest-value content and to grow audience engagement within all of our products
• Seek out and suggest to leaders innovative packages and new ways of storytelling on our owned and operated platforms
  
  

Qualifications

What we expect you to have to be ready:

• Bachelor's degree preferably in journalism or related field
• With a BA, at least 2 years of experience as a digital producer in a fast-paced operational role. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and up to 2 years' experience; a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience; or 6 years' experience in a related field without a degree.
• Experience with platforms to drive reader engagement and build brand
• Experience with SEO optimization in a news environment
• Experience in journalism and strong news judgement
• Knowledge on the most recent trends in digital media
• An ability to take constructive criticism
• Passion and belief in local, regional and statewide journalism and its role as a societal change agent
• Familiarity and experience in using audience metrics
• Understanding of journalism standards and media ethics
• Reliable automobile transportation required.
• Reliable internet service for remote work environment required.
• Ability to work weekend and unusual hours as dictated by news events
  
  

Preferred Experience In One Or More Of The Following

• Newspapers, magazines, media, technology, or related field
• Experience working in a breaking news environment
• Social, interactive, or digital media
  
  

While this position allows hybrid work, it will be based in metro Atlanta and the producer will be expected to be onsite in our Atlanta office on a regular basis. It will involve work on the weekend and nights as dictated by the news cycle and team needs.

USD 28.08 - 42.12 per hour

Compensation

Hourly base pay rate is $28.08 - $42.12/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Benefits

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, parental leave, and COVID-19 vaccination leave.
