Outside Plant Technician Level 1

Summary:

Under the direction of and reporting to the Director of Operations, the Outside Plant Technician Level 1 will primarily be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of outside plant facilities. These facilities include aerial and buried cables, distribution cabinets, poles, and other infrastructure necessary for the delivery of telecommunications services.

The ideal candidate will bring a positive attitude, teamwork abilities, and a commitment to safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Core duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in the installation of outside plant infrastructure, including cables, poles, cabinets, and associated equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections of existing outside plant facilities to proactively identify and resolve issues
  • Conduct tests and diagnostics to assess the performance of outside plant components
  • Respond promptly to service outages and incidents related to the outside plant network
  • Troubleshoot and identify faults in cables, connectors, and other network components
  • Effectively resolve technical issues, restore services, and minimize downtime
  • Maintain accurate records of work activities, including installations, maintenance, and repairs performed
  • Complete and submit required reports, service tickets, and documentation in a timely manner
  • Provide detailed reports on network performance, equipment status, and any incidents encountered during work
  • Adhere to safety protocols and best practices while working on outside plant infrastructure
  • Comply with industry standards, company policies, and regulations related to telecommunications services and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with other team members to address complex issues and projects
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and customers regarding job status, technical issues, and project updates
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles used in the field
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or damages to the appropriate authority

Education, Experience, and Other Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic understanding of telecommunications concepts and technologies
  • Ability to climb poles, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks

Work Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Travel up to 5%
  • Lifting and carrying heavy objects, up to 75 lbs, will be required
  • Ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps, and the like using feet/legs and/or hands/arms
  • Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand(s)
  • Pushing/pulling may involve the use of hands/arms, feet/legs, and/or feet, done with one side of the body or both sides
  • Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet to enter restricted spaces
  • Occasionally, using one or both feet or legs to move controls on machinery or equipment
  • Clarity of vision and color vision are both required (i.e., working with small objects or reading small print), including the use of computers
  • Sitting/driving for long periods is frequently required

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive pay depending on previous experience and current certifications. Overtime is also a factor and is paid at 1.5x base. We are a performance-based company and pay will ultimately reflect the employee’s productivity and overall performance

  • This is a remote position and will require the employee to work away from home
