Shift: Full-Time 40/hrs per week, Days
The Oklahoma Children's Hospital is the only Pediatric Level 1 ACS verified center in the State of Oklahoma. The program is led by Dr. Jeremy Johnson, Pediatric Trauma Medical Director and Mollie Triplett, RN, Pediatric Trauma Program Manager. Registry data is submitted to the State and Oklahoma and Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). Trauma data is utilized for the development of injury prevention program, educational plan, process improvement projects, and research.
Looking for a trauma data expert to lead 2 pediatric trauma registrars and work closely with the Process Improvement Coordinator on quality assurance.
General Description: Under general direction of the Trauma Program Leadership, oversees the daily operations of the Trauma Registry function of the Trauma Program. Ensures trauma cases are abstracted and compliant with American College of Surgeons, National Trauma Data Bank, Trauma Quality Improvement Program and State requirements. May provide day-to-day assistance to registry staff in order to assist in prioritization of work and to ensure that all functions operate smoothly.
Essential Responsibilities
Education: Bachelors degree in Health Information Management, accredited Nursing Program OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum education requirement. This to include: experience in coding, abstracting data or emergency room activities for the required education/certification.
Experience: None required.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Must have previously attended, or attend within 12 months of employment hire the following courses: The American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registrar Course or equivalent provided by a state trauma program, The Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling Course, ICD-10 Coding Course, that must be refreshed every 5 years.

Essential Responsibilities
- Has working knowledge of the American College of Surgeons and Oklahoma State Department of Health inclusion criteria and ability to review reports and/or charts for possible candidates and select qualifying patients
- Serves as site coordinator for the trauma registry.
- Assists with information regarding the Trauma Registry
- Makes work assignments for the Trauma Registrars.
- Ensures that all cases are entered and the record is closed within 60 days of discharge.
- Ensures that patient confidentiality is met in regards to HIPAA compliance.
- Supports the Trauma Program by coordinating various clinical data collection initiatives for performance improvement, state reporting and designation, national reporting, and ACS Trauma Center verification.
- Ensures appropriate and timely submissions of Trauma Registry Data to all applicable entities, including the ACS TQIP Program and State
- Enter and submit trauma patient data, through the trauma registry software, according to established state and national protocols.
- Identify and abstract trauma registry data cases by referencing primary and secondary sources of information.
- Complete each identified patient record in a timely manner as requested by the Director Trauma Program.
- Serves as member of the Trauma Operations Committee
- Serve as a resource person in the development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of assigned database initiatives.
- Serves as a Resource for the training and growth of Trauma Registry personnel
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Understanding of medical terminology required. Utilizing electronic medical records.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of principles and practices of clinical trauma care, the trauma registry, medical records, coding and registry report writing
- Database management skills, especially in abstracting and coding trauma related data from medical records and laboratory reports that are computerized
- Good computer and interpersonal skills, professional behavior and the ability to collaborate with others across the healthcare spectrum. #CB
