JOB SUMMARY

 

POET Grain is a leader in the grain markets, buying nearly 1 billion bushels of grain each year. The Grain Assistant reports to the local Commodity Manager and is responsible for clerical duties related to the grain origination/merchandising operations at the bioprocessing facility. Core responsibilities for this role are contract administration, ticket application, and processing inbound & outbound truck traffic.  The Grain Assistant also provides backup for the Grain Merchandiser and Scale Technician at the location. 

 

Applicants should expect an 8-hour work day with some overtime opportunities depending on the volume traded and receiving hours.

 

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Grain contract administration. For example, set up new accounts in grain accounting systems and manage contract signatures and past-due shipments.
  • Maintain audit-ready electronic files.
  • Apply scale tickets to contracts
  • Mail contracts, settlements, and checks
  • Manage timely settlement of all grain deliveries per state regulations.
  • Assist with rolling contracts, contract adjustments, etc.
  • Reconcile daily trade statement of options to contracts entered daily.
  • Monitor pricing deadlines, option expiration, double obligation strikes, and final settlements.
  • Assist in processing, managing, and paying deferred payment of contracts.
  • Daily position reconciliation for multiple commodities.
  • Provide support to Grain Merchandisers on contract overruns/underfills.
  • Provide support for 3rd party accounts, including scheduling and monitoring deliveries.
  • Share contract and settlement information with POET Grain accounting and trade support teams, as requested.
  • Data entry into various programs to track and report daily activity.
  • Provide backup scale coverage daily, as needed.
  • Telephone reception as needed.
  • Champion POET in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS: WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) to five (5) years of administrative assistant or accounting experience or other agriculture customer service experience preferred with a demonstrated background of success.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and accurately enter data.
  • Consistently demonstrate excellent customer service with a positive, friendly attitude while maintaining confidentiality.

  • You have grain accounting experience, preferred but not required.
