Job Description

Location:

San Francisco, CA

This role directly reports to the Director of Photography. The Photo Editor will create day-to-day photo/visual solutions to support the digital and print editorial staff to maintain the visual standards of the brand across the WIRED Global Network.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Commissions and produces photography for stories and features while collaborating with editors and designers to determine what would best visually represent each piece. Handles all aspects of shoot production including: Creating call sheets, shot lists, hiring crew, catering, negotiating rates, securing releases from models, securing location agreements and COIs, SOWs and POs, plus handling final files and retouching delivery.
• Mentors junior photo editors.
• Manages front of the book print production for WIRED Global Network.
• Acquires photo research for both the digital and the print editions of WIRED. Research, source, license, and edit photos and videos for Wired.com.
• Use Photoshop skills for toning, color correction, and cropping.
• Assist design department in creating digital illustrations.
• Uphold all publishing copyright laws and artist rights for Conde Nast Publications.
• Reviews photographer portfolios and continuously searches for new talent and potential photo essays.
• Attends various photo events representing WIRED on panels and portfolio reviews.
• Act as staff photographer when needed.
• Ensure that WIRED’s visual aesthetic is maintained across all platforms.
• Local to SF: assist in maintaining WIRED Photo Studio for still and video shoots.
  
  

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

• 5+ years of work experience in photography, media or relevant fields. Must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop.
• Efficient in all aspects of photo shoot production.
• Knowledge of digital and social content, specifically vertical video.
• Knowledge of artist contracts, copyright laws, photo licensing and artist rights.
• Possess a strong eye for talent and vast knowledge of photographers, videographers, photo representatives and artist agencies.
• Experience with animation and digital illustration is a plus.
• Highly organized, detail oriented, and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to contribute to editorial decisions and support the development of visual stories across all platforms.
• Additional duties as required.
• BA or BFA in photography, studio art or related fields preferred.
  
  

This is a guild position.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $69,000-$113,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
