The ideal candidate will have experience managing both a production facility and a team. They should be able to analyze each step of the manufacturing process and make effective use of resources to deliver desired outcomes. The candidate will also have an ability to follow safety and compliance guidelines diligently in order to create a healthy work environment for all employees. 


Job Duties 

1.  Fully support the BRCGS systems in daily practices, documentation and procedures.

2.  Use the BRCGS standards as a basis for decision making.

3.  Coordinate the floor practices with Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains to support the BRCGS systems – especially with regards to traceability.

4.  Analyzes production needs and reviews entire plant production operations to coordinate employees and equipment necessary to operate at maximum efficiency.

5.  Has the obligation and authority to take appropriate and immediate actions action to preserve the integrity of the BRCGS systems.

6.  Works effectively with all production employees to maintain and improve statistics for pounds per man hour, overhead costs, yields, and direct labor costs for the plant. Keeps records of these and other production statistics for the facility. Maintains specific goals for labor costs when scheduling permanent and temporary employees.

7.  Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and suggests changes to increase efficiency of the entire plant.

8.  Represents the company in negotiating union contracts. Maintains records according to union contract.

9.  Recommends methods to motivate workers to achieve goals. Recommends personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges and disciplinary measures. Acts in accordance with established grievance procedures.

10. Acts as head of the safety committee and ultimately responsible for ensuring that OSHA requirements are maintained. Establishes internal procedures and practices to conform to government required safety standards and monitors adherence to such standards. Ensures that accident investigations are conducted according to established procedures.

11. Confers with Quality Control Manger to ensure that quality standards are maintained during production. Inspects finished products to ensure acceptable quality and quantity before they are sent to shipping.

12. Responsible for ensuring that the plant passes all inspections from such government agencies as OSHA, the FDA, the military and local health and safety agencies.

13. Facilitate cycle counts in order to maintain proper inventory levels.

14. Oversees grounds and activities in the shipping and receiving department.

15. Confers with the Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance of machines and equipment in entire plant to ensure performance at maximum output.

16. Confers with Production Managers and supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

17. Oversees waste treatment operations.

18. Performs other duties as may be required.


Position Requirements:

1.  Strong leadership

2.  Sound decision-making skills

3.  Minimum 5 -10 years experience as a plant manager in the food industry in order to possess a sufficient knowledge of food technology and industry trends in equipment and production. Some college desirable.

4.  Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills needed to coordinate production personnel and effectively deal with staff in other departments.

5.  Significant knowledge of machinery, equipment and tools used in food manufacturing operations.

6.  Ability to supervise and motivate employees effectively.

7.  Significant knowledge of the fish industry and Vita Food’s products.

8.  Familiarity with using personal computers including spreadsheets and word processing programs.

9.  Ability to plan and organize work flow.

10. Ability to maintain confidentiality of company information.
