Job Summary

The James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Center for Research on Wealth Inequality and Mobility at the University of Chicago advances groundbreaking, interdisciplinary research on the origins and nature of contemporary inequalities. By bringing together an interdisciplinary community of scholars to exchange ideas, integrate approaches, and confront empirical challenges, the Stone Center generates the rigorous research necessary to guide effective policy solutions to ameliorate socioeconomic inequality, promote mobility, and improve economic well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Produce audio for The Inequality Podcast, an initiative that fulfills the Stone Center's pedagogical mission by producing content that amplifies empirically grounded research and policy for an information-hungry and curious audience.
  • Oversee audio recording and editing processes, establishing and maintaining high standards for audio quality, considering speech modifications, volume modulation, ambient noise, and other necessary qualitative factors.
  • Shape framing, structure, and tone for each episode in collaboration with the executive director, faculty hosts, and writers.
  • Establish series calendar and deadlines, shepherding episodes from inception through the final mix.
  • Review, iterate on, and approve final audio mixes and edits, also giving notes on all drafts of outlines and scripts.
  • Ensure the highest creative and journalistic standards for scripts, mixes, and metadata. Leverage audience metrics and real-time analytics to inform decision-making. Contribute to social media marketing efforts for the podcast.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience or Certifications:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Experience

  • 2+ years experience in audio production and audio journalism preferred.
  • Background collaborating with production teams preferred.
  • Strict adherence to deadlines required.
  • Organized, collaborative, and creative thinker required.
  • Comfortably receive and act on constructive feedback required.

Technical Knowledge Or Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Audacity, Captivate, Squadcast, and other editing or recording software.
