Post Doctoral Scholar
Department
Arts and Sciences | Chemistry and Biochemistry Administration
The Kudryashov lab at The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences invites a candidate for an NIH-funded postdoctoral scholar position.
We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated postdoctoral scholar with expertise in biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, biophysics or related areas to conduct cutting-edge research on several projects focused on the role of actin binding proteins (e.g., plastins) and actin-specific bacterial toxins in the pathogenesis of human hereditary and infectious diseases, and cancer. Two examples of the lab’s priority projects are the recent discoveries of actin processive polymerization at the pointed end by Vibrio toxins (Sci. Adv., 2022) and the allosteric regulation of actin bundling proteins plastins (NSMB, 2022). Both, plastin and toxin projects relate to the mechanotransduction/mechanosensing properties of the actin cytoskeleton. Therefore, candidates with interests in mechanobiology are particularly welcomed.
The primary responsibilities of the postdoctoral scholar will be: taking the lead role in their research project(s), designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, writing/publishing manuscripts as the lead author, presenting their results at the local and national/international meetings, and supervising undergraduate and graduate researchers in the lab. Efforts to secure funding essential for successful career development will be encouraged and supported. The position will remain open until filled. Guidance by the PI will be provided to assist with successful careers in academia or industry, depending on the priorities of the candidates.
Qualifications
A Doctoral degree (PhD, or MD/PhD) in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Structural biology, Biophysics or related disciplines is required by the time of the appointment.
Desired
Experience in the areas of the actin cytoskeleton, mechanobiology, protein characterization, advanced cell biology and molecular cloning techniques along with excellent writing and verbal communication skills are desirable.
Additional Information
The salary range for this job profile is $48,000 to $60,000. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
