Job Description
The Biomedical Informatics Program (BMI) is hosted within the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics (HOBI) and is closely affiliated with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). It engages in a broad spectrum of informatics research and service initiatives across the University of Florida (UF). These services include building the informatics infrastructure for the OneFlorida Clinical Research Network. BMI is responsible for establishing and maintaining the software, infrastructure, and data management processes required for all these networks. Recently, leveraging a $50 million hardware (i.e., HiPerGator AI cluster–top 20 worldwide with 140 NVIDIA SuperPODs and 1,120 A100 GPUs) from NVIDIA, we created GatorTron and GatorTronGPT—the largest clinical large language models (LLMs) trained with all UF Health patients’ clinical notes.
This position will work under the guidance of Dr. Xing He, in collaboration with a team of data scientists, clinicians, bioinformaticians and computer scientists to fulfill the research and service missions of the BMI program, especially for NLP projects. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining innovative software applications that utilize the capabilities of natural language processing (NLP) and LLMs to enhance healthcare outcomes and biomedical informatics. Your contributions will directly influence patient care, clinical decision-making, and medical research.
Responsibilities
Research and Development - Engage in the design and development of advanced NLP software to meet research objectives. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team that includes informaticists, software developers, information quality experts, statisticians, and fellow researchers throughout the development lifecycle.
Publication and Dissemination - Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present results at conferences and seminars. Work closely with senior researchers to draft and submit technical project proposals for new software solutions or enhancements to existing applications.
Data Analysis and Management - Address data queries from the research team, utilizing software applications to process electronic health record (EHR) data and extract pertinent data elements. Ensure the integrity and quality of research data.
Mentorship and Collaboration - Provide guidance to junior research staff and students. Participate in research group meetings and contribute to the academic community by reviewing journal manuscripts and engaging in departmental activities.
Expected Salary
$56,484 - $68,604
Minimum Requirements
In order to be considered, you must upload your cover letter and resume.
