Program Summary

AFSC’s Colorado Immigrant Rights program takes our direction from people directly impacted by injustice. AFSC Colorado organizes immigrants and allies to support immigrant justice by resisting deportation, lifting up positive narratives, and successfully advocating for policy change through providing leadership development. Our immigrant leaders are experts on the causes of inequality and the transformative changes most needed for liberation. They know the transformative changes most needed for liberation. Our work has roots in allyship and accompaniment, leveraging our privilege and partnering with immigrant leaders to promote racial justice. We imagine a Colorado where directly-impacted people define and win the policies they need. We want our state to value all people and encourage their contributions.

AFSC is a leader in promoting intersectional approaches to organizing. We recognize, for example, the many connections between labor rights, farmworker rights and immigrant rights, and we take a global approach by naming and fighting against the root causes of migration like climate change, militarism and colonialism. This approach contributes to major policy wins and cultural shifts.

The Colorado Immigrant Rights Program has two main program groups. Not1More (N1M) Deportation groups are comprised of 41 immigrants in Metro Denver and Fort Morgan fighting their own or their family members’ deportation. N1M shares strategies, tactics and support around preventing deportation. N1M keeps the impacts of deportation policies in the public eye, builds immigrant leadership and testifies in support of policy change.

Coloradoans for Immigrant Rights (CFIR) is a group of 1550 allies led by 16 core members who follow the leadership of directly impacted people by engaging allies, the faith communities and building a stronger voice for immigrant justice across movements. CFIR provides court accompaniment, works with educators for safer schools, and pushes for immigrant rights at the city, state and federal levels.
