Preschool Aide

Assists teaching staff with instruction of children in activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical, cognitive and spiritual growth in preparation for elementary school. Assists the classroom teacher in all supervision aspects of the children including but not limited to the classroom and outdoor play.


General Responsibilities and Specific Duties include but are not limited to:


Environmental
  • Assists classroom teacher in implementing safety rules and supervises activities of the children.
  • Assists with safety supervision.
  • Assists with the observation of daily health conditions of the children and reports results to the classroom teacher.
  • Assists children during snack and mealtimes.
    • Teaches and demonstrates appropriate eating and hygiene personal habits.
  • Assists classroom teacher in maintaining an orderly, debris free learning environment.


Developmental and Educational
  • Helps develop the social learning and physical skills of the children.
  • Demonstrates the use of equipment and educational materials and assists in supervising children in their use.
  • Teaches arts, crafts, songs and games as assigned by the classroom teacher.
  • Acts out and reads stories to the children.
  • Helps with supervision during field trips.
  • Leads group activities that reinforce the concepts of space, time, numbers, colors, etc.
  • Assists in conducting individual and group activities as assigned by the classroom teacher.
  • Works individually with children as needed within the teaching concepts of the classroom.
  • Supervises children during transitions.
  • Provides information to the classroom teacher on children’s progress and development.
  • Attends staff and parent meetings when requested by the classroom teacher or preschool administrator.
  • Supervises the classroom when the teacher is on site but away from the classroom (no more than 10 minutes) and during nap time.
    • This is only upon completion of at least 12 units.


Fire, Earthquake and Emergency Dispersal


  • Participate in fire and earthquake dispersal drills (not less than 2 times per year).
  • Knowledgeable about evacuation procedure
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each child under the direction of Crenshaw Christian Center security, preschool administrator and/or principal.
