Position Summary

The President & CAO of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center is responsible for overall management of the medical center to ensure achievement of objectives established by the Board of Directors.

  • Determines vision, mission and strategic direction of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Establishes policies, procedures, and practices to guide quality performance of activities.
  • Delegates to subordinate managers responsibility and authority, and provides leadership necessary for effective performance of their responsibilities.
  • Ensures the medical center operates within federal, state and local laws and regulations as regards delivery of quality health care to the communities in which we serve.
  • Reviews and controls program results for the medical center to insure that missions are achieved in terms of quality, timeliness, costs, and effectiveness.
  • Reviews and studies activities of the medical center to focus goals and objectives; define current and future business needs and growth opportunities; and then to translate these into long-range plans and strategies.
  • Monitors operations and activities of organizations and makes changes in structure, organizational design, methods of operation necessary for effectiveness, growth and profitability.
  • Ensures a professional working environment that will optimize employee motivation, performance through meaningful work assignments, proper utilization of personnel, effective staffing, training and development, an effective performance planning and review system, and equitable pay relationships.
  • Creates a favorable organization image in the community through projects, membership on board and committees, and business contacts. Encourages subordinate managers to exercise this responsibility.
  • Is available to employees and supervisors by periodic walk-through of working areas and facilities. Periodically meets with employees for informational purposes and to determine the concerns of the medical center.
  • Provides leadership for conducting business activities in strict compliance with Covenant Health’s policies, procedures and practices, with a strong commitment to established missions for the medical center. Responsible for this commitment by subordinate managers and all employees.


Minimum Education

Graduate degree in business administration or hospital administration required.

Minimum Experience

Must have at least fifteen (15) years of healthcare experience in a multi-function health system. Should have demonstrated capability in key management functions of planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
