Private Equity Business Development Associate

Graham Partners, a Philadelphia-area private investment firm, focused on investing in technology-driven companies that are spurring innovation in advanced manufacturing, resulting in product substitutions, raw materials conversions, and disruptions to traditional end markets, seeks an outgoing, well-organized, self-motivated individual to join our fast-paced team as a Business Development Associate.

The Business Development Associate will report to the Managing Director of Business Development and will focus on building meaningful long-term relationships with third parties, sourcing investment opportunities for Graham's different fund strategies, and furthering Graham's presence in the market via in-person meetings, calls and emails. They will help shape and expand the origination strategy to increase and strengthen the network of intermediaries and target investment opportunities. Additionally, they will help build out and manage Graham's Investment Theme Program, a proprietary sourcing platform that generates off-market investment opportunities.

Responsibilities Also Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Extensive business travel via market roadshows, M&A conferences, industry tradeshows, and other events with both intermediaries and investment targets. Expectations are to be on the road at least 50% of the time.
  • Create and manage internal business development reports.
  • Track and maintain a pipeline of investment opportunities for platforms and add-ons across Graham's funds.
  • Analysis and management of the firm's client relationship management system (DealCloud).
  • Work with the industry and IR teams to create and maintain business development marketing materials.
  • Qualify inbound investment opportunities based on Graham's investment criteria.
  • Oversee the summer intern sourcing project
  • Assist in the review and markup of Non-Disclosure Agreements and Fee Agreements associated with origination.

  • The ideal candidate will act as a representative of Graham, so a high level of competence and ability to communicate effectively is required
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including strong public speaking and presentation skills for both internal and external activities
  • Strong organization skills, including the ability to manage large quantities of information via Graham's CRM and other database tools
  • Strong project management skills
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high volume, deadline driven environment.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently and graciously interact with teammates.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently and juggle multiple assignments and prioritize accordingly.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and superb attention to detail and a strong ability to execute.
  • Intellectual curiosity and analytical thinking.
  • Strong sense of urgency, adaptability, flexibility, and resourcefulness.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree from a competitive four-year institution is required
  • At least two years of experience in private equity, investment banking, commercial banking, consulting, wealth management or private equity services. Strong preference will be given to individuals with origination experience.
  • Prior experience working with and maintaining a CRM, is preferred
  • Experience with private equity data / software platforms (e.g. Pitchbook, SourceScrub, Grata, Sutton Place, Cyndx, CapIQ, etc.) is preferred
