Producer, CBS News and Stations Weather Unit

The CBS News and Stations new Weather Unit is seeking an experienced field producer based in New York to serve as a driver of bold and distinctive weather coverage for linear and streaming platforms.

The successful candidate for this role must bring extensive field experience with correspondents and anchors and thrive in breaking news and live coverage. In addition, the successful candidate must be a skilled storyteller, who knows how to find and produce those very important personal and community stories. This producer must be familiar with the latest field producing technology and a desire to present the most visual and creative experience to our viewers.

Previous experience covering all the major weather events is required.

Professional Requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a field producer.
  • A track record of creating great live shots.
  • Ability to shoot video as needed.
  • Solid background in journalism and TV, including strong news judgment & critical thinking skills.
  • Deep understanding of news standards
  • Strong communication skills and ability to train and advise others.
  • Must be very detail oriented with ability to work on deadline.
  • Adept at responding to breaking news.
  • Fluency with desktop editing

  • Ability to travel when news events dictate.
  • Skilled at leading a team in stressful situations.
  • Produce in high impact weather conditions with a safety-first mentality.
  • Work calmly with control room producers
  • Show flexibility when plans fail.

Additional Information

Hiring Salary Range: $110,000.00 - 140,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
