KCRW’s production team is seeking a talented, per diem recording and audio engineer for as needed live performance engineering and mixing duties and large scale projects. Responsibilities include recording and editing daily content; mixing weekly and monthly programming; recording in live and taped environments; and meeting time-sensitive deadlines. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills; be able to work solo or with a team to complete projects; self motivate; and have a few years of experience in broadcasting and/or recording studio workplaces.
This is a non-exempt position that reports to the COO.

Here’s What You’ll Do: {Job Tasks}
Sound Engineer for Music
- Assist music recording engineers for both live and pre-tape music sessions, on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic or other shows
- Mix music live to stereo track and multi-track
- Edit music and interviews in post-production
- FOH engineering for live performances or events
- Work with Music Team in workflow to edit/mix music performance and other music projects
- Record, mix, and edit the following audio elements:
- Weekly talk programs
- Weekly and monthly podcasts
- Segments for both news and music programs
- Commentaries and special features
- Promos for all KCRW programs
- Fund-drive related audio
- Other audio projects as assigned
- Record and plan remote broadcasts: live and taped
- Complete, deliver, and correctly label all audio assets for broadcast, podcast, video, or other channels of distribution
- Lead and assist special projects to completion
- Troubleshoot technical problems in time sensitive situations
- Troubleshoot and collaborate with IT/Engineering Teams to improve studio operations
- Train employees on studio technology, sound engineering equipment and production workflow
- Experience in broadcasting or studio environment
- Experience in music recording and mixing
- Undergraduate degree in broadcasting or recording
- Have a passion for KCRW’s programming, interest in NPR news, current affairs, music, and the arts
- Experience in lead engineering both live and recorded audio for music and talk programming
- Experience in radio or studio environment
- Detail oriented with an understanding of small and big picture projects
- Excellent creative, organizational, strategic and interpersonal skills
- Strong digital knowledge and experience
- Knowledge and experience in digital editing software (ProTools and Dalet a plus)
- Knowledge and experience with Windows and iOS
- Knowledge and experience in automation software
- Able to work under tight deadlines
- Keep up to date on technology to improve workflow
- Salary Range: $33.35 per hour
- Hybrid work schedule for select positions.
- Eligible for overtime and premium working holiday pay rate
