USAging Overview

USAging is the national association representing and supporting the network of Area Agencies on Aging and advocating for the Title VI Native American Aging Programs. Our members help older adults and people with disabilities throughout the United States live with optimal health, well-being, independence and dignity in their homes and communities.

As the local leaders on aging well at home our members develop, coordinate and deliver a wide range of home and community-based services, including information and referral/assistance, case management, home-delivered and congregate meals, in-home services, caregiver supports, transportation, evidence-based health and wellness programs, long-term care ombudsman programs and more.

USAging is dedicated to supporting the success of our members in supporting the nation’s growing population of older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers through advancing public policy, sparking innovation, strengthening the capacity of our members, raising their visibility and working to drive excellence in the fields of aging and home and community-based services.

Job Summary

The Program Assistant is a key player in the success of two program areas at USAging, the Aging and Disability Business Institute (Business Institute) and the Center of Excellence to Align Health and Social Care (COE). This position will increase the capacity of these two program areas to provide training, technical assistance, and resources to our grantees, related constituencies, and the public at large.

Job Title: Program Assistant

Reports to: Director, Center of Excellence to Align Health and Social Care

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Disseminate information, technical assistance and documents concerning the supported programs.
  • Perform administrative duties, including scheduling, that support the work of the supported programs and related teams.
  • Assume responsibility for data retrieval to develop recurring or one-time reports.
  • Maintain databases, spreadsheets and other tools to support data collection and maintenance.
  • Serve as a liaison with external stakeholders.
  • Manage program-specific USAging email accounts by daily monitoring incoming email, responding timely and forwarding concerns to program staff as needed.
  • Participate in assigned program meetings/calls and assume responsibility to track meeting attendance, document meeting minutes and task assignments.
  • Maintain and monitor assigned program area files including contracts, work plans and programmatic reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in the human services/aging field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in both the non-profit and competitive, for-profit sectors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills and capacity to work independently.
  • Proficiency in computer applications (Microsoft Office, including SharePoint), internet and social media platforms; with an aptitude for managing multiple online platforms on a daily basis.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including effective communication with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrates a dedicated, all-hands-on-deck attitude, with a willingness to contribute as necessary.
  • Adaptability and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment with a quick-changing landscape.
  • Passion for USAging’s mission of helping older adults age in place and maintain their health and independence for as long as possible.

WORK HOURS AND LOCATION

This full-time position is based in USAging’s Washington, DC, office. USAging will consider candidates outside of the Washington, DC area. The successful candidate will also be able to occasionally travel to member conferences and always attend the USAging Annual Conference and Tradeshow each summer for up to six days.
