Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.07 to $32.04/hr.

Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $28.07 to $48.28/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Type of Remote or Hybrid Work Arrangement, if applicable: Hybrid (Both UC & Non-UC locations) Hybrid Work Schedule will be considered as long as hybrid arrangements are approved by the Division of Student Affairs. Brief Summary Of Job Duties:

In collaboration and consultation with the Director and Associate Director, works with faculty, staff, students, other campus departments, and community members/agencies. Assists with researching, developing, planning, and implementing programs and events such as lectures, films, discussions, musical performances, spoken word events, film discussions, workshops representing a wide range of perspectives based upon race, class, national origin, sexual orientation, ethnicity and other issues pertaining to marginalized communities. Designs and implements programs to convey the MCC's philosophy and mission to the university community and surrounding communities in a timely manner and advises and works with student groups affiliated with the MCC in planning and implementing programs and events that create a safe space through creating a platform/community space. Works with other campus programs and departments and student groups, the MultiCultural Center's Programmer enables the university community to explore complex social issues such as racism and discrimination based on sexual orientation, religious oppression and ethnic backgrounds through critical thinking and productive discussion.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience working in Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration.
  • Experience initiating new programs, conceptualizing, organizing, and implementing transformative change.
  • Knowledge of social justice issues, both current and historical and knowledge of social justice frameworks.
  • Skill and ability to provide an open climate and create opportunities for strong collaborations, cross cultural communication, and department interaction.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, students, administration, guest speakers, and the public verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns of a political nature, both on campus and with the public.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multitask in a high volume environment, organizational skills

Job Functions And Percentages Of Time:

  • 85% Program Planning & MCC Liaison - In collaboration and consultation with the MCC Director and Associate Director, work in close collaboration with faculty, ethnic department chairs, and other campus department staff and students, assumes primary responsibility for researching, developing, planning, and implementing programs such as lectures, films, discussions and video presentations, spoken word events, panel discussions representing a wide range of perspectives based upon race, class, sexual orientation, marginalization, and oppression. Organizes, plans, and develops 12-15 performances, workshops, panel discussions, art exhibits, receptions, etc., quarterly, keeping with the mission of the MCC.

Negotiates and schedules time, venue, honoraria, lodging, meals, and travel. Sets strict deadlines for programming and adheres to them. In collaboration with the Public Events Manager Assistant, anticipates, manages, and troubleshoots programming-related crises. Facilitates interaction between artists, speakers, poets, or panelists and students, faculty, staff, and the community. Negotiates with agents and representatives to complete contracts and performance agreements. Plans, coordinates, and implements 1-2 events per quarter at a larger venue outside the MCC on campus, in Isla Vista, or in Santa Barbara. Anticipates an audience of 800-1200 at such events. Conducts assessments of /each program. Responsible for troubleshooting when needed through timely response.

Attends staff meetings and provides the entire MCC staff with programming updates. Meets with the Director and Associate Director regularly.

Works very closely with marginalized campus communities (Chicanx/Latinx, American Indian, African American, Asian/American, Middle Eastern, International, and gay/lesbian/bisexual and transgender) to organize events that adhere to the mission of the MultiCultural Center. Ensures equal representation and organizes events that promote sensitive issues. Calls meetings with different constituents to seek input for programming ideas. Establishes relationships with groups associated with these communities on an ongoing basis. Proactively responds to changing programming needs in these communities and actively seeks input.

Supervision of 4-5 student assistants. Meets regularly with student assistants and creates a safe space for collaboration and program development. Manages the budget planning and oversight for all events. Reports on programming budget to the Director, Associate Director, and MCC Board.

Seeks co-sponsorships for MCC programs. Keeps a log of donors and follows through as needed. Writes thank you notes and establishes relationships with donors. Supports the arrangement of other fundraising events and opportunities. Supports the efforts to work closely with the Student Affairs development officers.

  • 5% Intersectional Justice Facilitator Certificate Program - In collaboration with the MCC Director and Intersectional Justice Facilitator Coordinator, supports the planning of the IJFC academic program including curriculum, recruitment of faculty and guest speakers, course outlines, instructional strategies, methods, course objectives, required textbooks, syllabi, and test assessment for courses. Assist the IJFC Coordinator in identifying and proposing candidates to teach in the IJFC program, and negotiates instructor compensation. Works with the MCC Marketing Coordinator to promote the IJF program and communicates with students for the purpose of providing accurate information and recruiting students for the program. Works with the IJFC coordinator to review and process student applications. Conducts assessments of the IJFC program and writes annual reviews of the program.
  • 10% Other Duties - Supports the maintenance of the MultiCultural Center Archives and researches historical aspects of the MCC. Works with the Associate Director and/or Director to plan and coordinate staff development sessions. Involvement in special projects and committees as needed. Participates in board meetings. Other duties as assigned by the MCC Director and Associate Director.
