About The Team And Position

The Safe & Secure Team helps to keep our 15,000+ associates at our 200+ various locations, safe and secure every day. They develop our Environmental Health and Safety strategy for the enterprise ensuring that our associate safety is, and always will be, a paramount priority. By leveraging their expertise and balancing the needs of the business, our Safe & Secure Environmental Health and Safety Team ensures we do the right thing for our teams, our communities, and our business as we change the way people buy and sell cars. By working cross-functionally this team builds strong partnerships with our business leaders to implement word class programs at each site consistently allowing us to ensure our associate’s Health and Safety is a key part of our Carvana Culture.

Carvana is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Health and Safety Program Management professional who will bring their passion and expertise to ensuring our Associate's safety. This position will work closely with various business partners and project teams to identify gaps in our processes, develop solutions, and work collaboratively to implement programs, processes, and systems related to our associate's safety and health.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a self-starter with a passion for environmental health and safety, stellar attention to detail, a high level of flexibility and commitment, and a focus on implementation/execution while living our core values. No day will be exactly the same. This individual will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other teams in the Safe & Secure organization as well as other business units to evolve our approach to health and safety programs. Most importantly, this person will see their insights have an immediate, tangible impact every day in a rapidly evolving company.

What You Will Do

  • Roll up your sleeves to assess our current processes and identify gaps that could lead to increased risk for our associates at our sites.
  • Work collaboratively with other Safe & Secure departments and company business partners to find solutions that will meet our business needs while reducing our risk.
  • Use data to identify areas of potential concern and monitor the performance of programs that have been implemented.
  • Keep informed of the regulatory environment and ensure that we are developing world-class processes and programs to meet our responsibilities of being a great partner to our communities.
  • Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, and monitors and summarizes the progress of projects/programs.
  • Establishes strong communication protocol to keep key partners informed of progress and support needed to accomplish shared commitments and goals.
  • Develop deep working relationships with business partners to help balance the needs of the business, with the goals of the process or program being developed and implemented.
  • Be the Environmental Health and Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) and work collaboratively with the Safe & Secure Support Field team to implement and manage programs from afar.
  • Contribute to the creation of a safe environment, garnering valuable feedback, implementing thoughtful changes, and following up with the teams to make continuous improvements.
  • Constantly look for ways to improve programs, including but not limited to employee experience, candidate experience, talent management practices, reporting, design, and more.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Should Know/have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or similar (Will accept other majors if combined with 5+ years’ experience in safety management roles).
  • 3-5 years of experience working with EH&S program development or implementation.
  • Related health and safety credentials (ASP/CSP, SMS, OSHA 30, etc.).
  • Experience in managing corporate-level safety programs.
  • Experience in the implementation of health and safety management platforms.
  • Experience in writing Environmental, Health and Safety programs and policies.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and program management skills.
  • Proven ability to interact effectively at all levels within the organization, including senior management.
  • A high degree of integrity and honesty to handle sensitive or confidential information.
  • Excellent communication, including facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to coach and motivate others with high influencing skills.
  • The energy and drive to accomplish goals, meet deadlines, and find solutions.
  • Must be able to prioritize, problem-solve, and work under pressure in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing organization.

It would be great if you also have

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience with Workday.
  • Experience with Google Suite.
  • Experience in instructional design.
